Default Anyone Else Upgrade Their FXT Speakers?

What a pain in the arse!

I was hoping the stock mounts would work, but I had to cut the speakers out of them to use them.

Trying to put the speakers in place, the magnet was too deep and was hitting the window assembly.

Then couldn't use screws to mount them with, so I had to drill small holes and use zip ties.

It still sounds good, but I didn't want to have to destroy my stock speakers

Bry.

Since you removed the interior door panels, you might want to look into this.

I have a lot of rattling and looking to get the replacement clips.

I upgraded the speakers on MY03 and didn't have to do any drilling. I used 6.5" front and 5 1/4" rears. I just reused the stock frames for mounting.

Bry,
So what did you put in, and how deep were they? Any pics? The stock speakers in the XT are awful.

I put in a set of Memphis 6.5" with swivel tweeters.

After cutting out the stock speaker from each surround they were about . 5 inches deeper then the stock ones.

I'll try to take some pix later.

What do you mean by "cutting out" the stock speakers?

In EVERY other car I've owned or worked on, there was a separate speaker and spacer. On the FXT, there is a fixed speaker IN the spacer!

It's really annoying

But does the spacer bolt into the door panel? What size was the stock speaker? 6.5 inch or some weird size?

The only thing I've upgraded is the sub's speaker. I put in a better quality 6X9 which was a PITA but it helps some.

It's a 6.5" bolted into the door, only problem is any aftermarket speaker I've ever seen would be too deep without a spacer.
