Got my video up (finally):
http://www.gofastpilots.com/thunderh...d_2nd_2004.htm my new site is www.gofastpilots.com -- transplanted my old site and will be updating the site for the STI stuff. These are full 20 minute sessions compressed to 384KB (so about 30-40MB file size). I'll get single hot laps up when I get more time along with site face lift. Best lap of the weekend for me was 2:03.692 and I won my NASA TTB class both days. Rob.

Didn't think it was good to run two different tire sizes front/rear

if the rolling diameter is the same it shouldnt matter.
So how do you like the car with some camber and springs with some decent rates up under it? |

Running two different tires is typically not a good thing, but the tire place at the track had no Hoosier R3S04 replacements so I had to go with Proxy RA1's and didn't feel like popping for a 4 tires as my 2 rear Hoosiers still had some life in them.
It certainly did get rid of my push have Hoosiers up front Toyo in the rear ![]() I doubt I'll run Hoosiers again as they just don't last with my very pushy STI (the fronts were new Hoosiers and last 1 day - 80 minutes). The Proxy RA1 is about 0.7 - 1.0 Second slower but lasts about 10 times longer. Spring rates were good, 450# is about right for 3370 lbs of street car & drive on Toyo's, I'd up the rate a tad for Hoosiers. Now, how to get rid of the push... My toe settings front/rear were not set so I have no idea what they were but probably not good for what I was doing. |

Are you using the stock STi struts under the GC's? I'm interested to hear your opinions on that suspension setup. I'm thinking of having Nate do something similar on my STi. Did you get the over the strut tower camber plates or the ones that go under?
ps: I'm a friend of Dan's. |

Yes stock STI struts, Ground Control caster/camber plates mount under. I will burn these struts out before I swap in real coilovers -- with the 450 springs the valving is not right and I need to adjust rebound which I can't do with stock struts. I can't run this setup as low as I would like -- in fact running too low is definitely NOT good with these struts.
I need to contact Gary S. off line about his DMS setup. I did bend a Ground Control plate already with just one off (T15) -- and a rim (nothing major) -- it was a pretty hard hit but I've hit hard before without issues in other cars. Nate had a hard time making the Ground Control plates work/fit -- I realize Nate does a lot of business with GC but he may think twice about doing their "STI" plates again until they release a kit that really fits. I'm going to team up with a friend and run OTC next year so real coilovers will be needed -- but even with the limited stuff I have now I've got the T3 EVO's covered as far as lap times. |

I'm curious why your tires didn't last... that should be enough camber not to smoke the outside edges.

Possibly these reasons:
1. I ran too much negative camber for 2 sessions (-3.9) 2. I over drove the tires as the car has wicked understeer 3. Car is too heavy for the tires 3370 lbs (car & driver) 4. Hoosier did NOT make a longer lasting tire in the R3S04 5. Bad front/rear toe settings I corner weighted the car to 50.1% so it was setup well from that perspective. |

For rear i was using offset Camber bolts, no plates up top. I could get -2.2 on the right side but only -1.6 on the left side (rear) -- not exactly sure why.
275 WHP according to Shiv's (Vishnu) dyno on 100 octane map. Probably 350 WHP on anyone else's ![]() Rob |

If you had the car aligned previously (with normal street camber settings) and changed the camber when you got to the track then you wouldve added a bunch of toe-in (understeer and rapid tire wear). You'd probably be good with about -2.0* camber and 1/16" total toe out on the front, same in the rear but zero toe. The car looked really strong on the track -- tough to compare times to the OTC Evos though because they dont run the bypass for turn 5. |

I think we met at the gas pump briefly.
-2.0 camber?? Hoosier recommend -3.5? I'm sure my lack of setting toe front/rear did not have a good affect, but I think it was me just being too agressive on the camber and over driving the car. I've ran with and without the bypass and it is about 1 sec slower. Hoosier is a faster tire no doubt, but I need to get used to OTC tire rules so I'll start there from now on. If the EVO's keep from blowing up like they did in the last OTC, I really don't think they will be much of a challenge ![]() But seriously, I've only just started scratching the surface in terms of my STI -- I've got a long list of things I can do and keep it in T3 for OTC. I haven't done much to the motor and don't plan too -- factory spec & sane boost levels is often the most reliable. |

Lap times are up/corrected on www.mylaps.com
http://www.mylaps.com/results/newResults.jsp?id=48028 Pretty cool idea of AMB to provide this service. Transponder buyers can register for free and look at each and every lap time, even permits me to do competitor comparisons. Rob. |
