Post just got my rs back from the shop, now a new problem@#$%!

my race rally blue 2.5 rs was in the shop for one week, just got it back and now a new problem, i was wondering if any one has this problem, and if so, what advise do you have?

bottom line problem, my rs is burning oil, about half per oil change, my friend(whom is the shop foreman at subaru where i get my work done) he notice my pcv is sucking oil from the engine and pushing the oil back to the intake system(if you look at the pcv hoses from each cylinder heads, it draws air back to the big back box) my rs is stock other than suspension and tires(too many problems with the vehicle already, waiting till the warranty is over, already have 77,000km) my bud is trying to get subaru to put in a new short block(bottom end) he's saying oil is getting past my piston rings and that's the reason why i'm burning oil.

anyone have this problem??? i love my impreza, but i think my rs is a lemon!

btw, i work at honda was a mech, and now a advisor. i think this will be my last subaru???

list of warranty repair:
transmission, first and second gears, hub, bearing and shift fork
clutch master cylinder
window regaltors
driver's window weatherstipping
paint on my front bumper
front exhaust manifold
there's all the major stuff!

my last two honda's never had any problem, wtf is wrong with my subaru???

someone help me???

Thumbs down

I have a 1999 2.5RS with 28,000 miles.

1st dealer said theres nothing wrong (had 3days)

2nd dealer changed left cyclnder head and said that everything is fine (had for 3.5 weeks)

Problem still exists

3rd dealer refused to do warranty work becuase of Apexi n1 exaust from cat back. Was instructed by SOA. (had car for 2 days)

Called SOA to see wtf is going on.I have to call them back on Monday.

I begining to think this Subaru is a POS.
I think I'm going to talk to an attorney about it being a LEMON.

The car has used about 5 qrts of oil in 1300 miles. Car does not smoke.

Good luck,

It may be a porous block or sump, a friend had a similar problem with his Integra Type R. Have a look underneath the engine and see if there is any evidence of seepage from the block/sump. Even if you can't see anything, that doesn't mean that the problem isn't there.
It took a long time for the dealer to find the problem on the Honda, in fact they weren't certain until the engine was sent back to Japan.

rallyeX, what was the reason subaru give you to replace shortblock??? is your pcv sucking oil back to the intake system??? i would like to know.

my rs does not burns oil, because it doesn't smoke, i want to fix this problem, not just replace things.

The dealer told me that the left cyclinder head was porous. They said that subaru had
a bad bacth of cyclinder heads. After all this work the car is still using oil.

They also said the pcv is ok.
The exhaust tip has really thick build up of oil. the trunk has a oily film all over it.

After I wash the car it only takes about 10 min of driving and the back of the car has oil on it.

Have a Nice Day?

This topic is very interesting. I bought my 99 RS in December of 1998. It was an early 99 model. What is interesting is the fact that at the time that I was buying my RS, the dealer had two rally blue 99 for sale. I asked the dealer where the other blue 99 was and he said that they were putting a new cylinder head on it. ????! I asked why and he stated that it was using oil right off of the truck. The car only had like 12 miles on it and was brand new. He stated that someone had over reved the engine before the dealership got it. In other words, the punks at the docks that drive the cars off of the boat probably drove the piss out of it while it was still cold. Not a good way to break in an engine. I've been told that these guys get paid by how many cars they can drive off the ship in an hour. I pity the person that bought that car from Exclusively Volvo/Subaru in Ontario, CA.

Good luck, ARG

My 99RS sometimes drinks oil through the PCV. It has always done this. It does not burn oil at all unless I corner hard enough to slosh oil into the PCV.

I've always been a bit low after autocrosses.

Unhappy

Is this happening on just the '99s? I was scheduled for an oil change about 200mi ago, but have held off, as I seem to be burning oil too. I've got the '98 DOHC RS and check the oil every fill-up (usually once per week-and-a-half) and have started to notice that I'm burning oil. Last week the check engine light came on and I found that I was almost out of oil. I filled up the reservoir with 3 quarts, then checked the level the next morning. It was fine, and the check engine light went off. Now, a few days later, the light is back on and I'm down to less than half. WTF? I make sure I'm not leaking everytime I park, and no oil had leaked out. Anyone have any ideas??

Later,
-Kagan

Uh, my car doesn't use oil to that level at all. If your representation was accurate, I'd be worried. My consumption is like Scooby25's, and I think it's normal assuming he does some spirited driving or autocross.

It could be rings in your car. The pre-99 piston design was utterly stupid.
