Question Is there a complete list anywhere of the diffs between 98 and 99 RS's?

Here's the stuff I think I know - can you folks point me to anything else?

98:
-DOHC engine v SOHC
-4 bolt bellhousing to tranny vs 8
-blas'e front foglights
-non-leather stitched wheel and shift knob(?)
-no white-faced gauges(?)
-no RS "checkered" style upholstery(?)
-gold v silver rims
-any suspension changes? somebody said the '99+'s ride differently
-more solid MAS setup (99's go kaput...)

and the 2000 RS's have a MAP setup, and the Ltd. Slip in the rear, otherwise the same, correct? Has anybody turboed/tuned these yet?

go to http://www.egr.unlv.edu/~simon/ and click on specifications for specs on the various model years.

I too would like some more info on turbocharging and supercharging MY00 Imprezas.

Thanks

I don't have ALL the differences listed but I do have a comparison chart for different year model 2.5RSs at my website under Info and FAQs.

Wink

-MY98 has different headlamps than MY99-00
-MY98 has different windshield washer nozzles
-MY98 has a different muffler tip than MY99-00
-The atmospheric sensor is located elsewhere on MY98

I think that does it

No, there are more weird changes.

The MY98 has the EGR valve in a different position than the MY99. (Makes fitting the Minnam intercooler on a MY98 difficult).

MY98 and MY99 have a different master cylinder/brake booster setup. MY98 allows use of the single stage booster, while you need to change the master cylinder to put a single stage on a MY99.

Lots of clutch differences. Search for Joel Gat's post on the subject.

Someone has posted on the MList that somewhere in the MY99 production run, they changed the rear brakes. Dunno the accuracy of that, but maybe Dale Teague knows more.

So J, does this mean the Ranger is dead, or are you just getting ready for it?

I don't think anyone has yet mentioned that the shifter linkage royally sucks on the '98.

Strepto:
Just trying to educate myself as much as possible. Over the past year or so I've learned quite a bit about RS's, but I don't know as much about the GSX and the A4. I'm trying to find out as much as I can about the strengths *and* the faults of these three cars in the event that USAA smokes ol' blackie...

From the basic spirit of these posts, seems like owners of '98's are happy with 'em, but the 99's have some nice "refinements", at the cost of that damned stupid MAF, and who knows what to do with MAP - that seems like a step backwards to me. (as does a hot film MAF as opposed to hot-wire....)

I hope this turns into an open season on the A4 and GSX so I can pick up some knowledge...hehe
