Default scca solo II and motocross helmet??

I just bought a motocross (dirt bike) helmet, and I was wondering if it is good enough for my first scca solo II autocross. It is a KBC and is Snell M2000 and DOT approved.

Is this a problem?

Will I look like an idiot? (in the helmet, thanks)

Jack

BTW, how well do you guys think a 03 wrx that runs in the 12s in the 1/4, with stock suspension, brakes, and kumho ecsta asx's (42 psi/40 psi is what I plan on running) do in a 1 minute course? Say against a stock STI...

Depends on the course. But the stock tires that come on the STI are a lot better than your tires, which is going to make the largest difference. It also likely has a lot less lag than your car, my money would be on the STI on almost any course. I would run more pressure in your tires, maybe 48f, 46r. You can use a M2000 helmet.

The Snell M2000 rating is fine for an autocross and don't worry about looking like an idiot. Sometimes you have to for a little fun.

When you get out there, don't be afraid to ask for an instructor to help you. They will be glad to help and you will learn a lot more.

As for competing with an sti, I don't think you have a chance on the stock suspension, but that all depends on who is driving it.

Thanks for the help guys!

I thought about upgrading some "driving" stuff this winter, but I wanna try it out a couple times first.

You should resist the urge to mod your suspension until you have a solid season under your belt.

This way you can concentrate on your driving and not things like which hole should I set the sway bar at this time? etc...

I see it all the time they play with the stuff yet totally miss the line or come in to a turn way too hot and say "Its still pushing?"

You would be amazed how times a stock car and good driver can smoke a modded car with novice driver

Well, I did my first solo II. I ended up 3rd out of 25 for raw times. I ended up in the SM class, so 10th overall with modifiers.

Winner: Sti by 1 second (1:36.6)
second: believe it or not mazda 3, 1:37.5 (awesome driver)
third: me 137.6

Quite a few z28s and blown mustangs...

I was pushing way too hard... I now realize that I would have done a lot better, if I had not been sliding all 4 around every corner. "smooth is fast"

Definitely an awesome time.
