Default question for Calgary and area folks...

Where in Calgary do you guys go to get your 17" (or 16" for that matter) wheels and tires balanced?
I'm having a hell of time finding a place that has a machine that is actually properly calibrated. I find that if the machine is even slightly out of tune, and the balancing isn't perfect, I get a nice steering wheel vibration at speeds over 100.
Any input would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Syncros

Default My Tires Inc.

try out My Tires Inc. #103 - 3424 27th Street NE ph#291-1661.
Anand, the owner, will do a good job and his machine is good. Just had tires mounted and wheels balanced.

Im having the exact same problem with my rubber. I have had them balanced 3 times at 2 different places and I still have a vibration over 100 km/h.

Anyone in edmonton I could go see about this???? As I drive on the highway back and forth to work and its getting very annoying.

(sorry to jack your thread)

Default good reference

Keep the recommendations of different places coming...this thread could then serve as a good reference for anyone who needs to get some wheel balancing done right...the first time...
Thanks,

Check out Pro Tire, its just behind the chrysler dealer at Mcknight and Deerfoot. Owners name is Ralph, I believe that the phone # is 295-2100. Excellent service from all my experiences there. Definately knows what he is doing and is priced fair.

Also Check out Kal Tire just e of mcleod trail, can't remember the exact address, but its the only one there. I believe it is the sport car club approved one, so they do an pretty darn good job. I have had 3 sets of different tires balanced there and no probs at all.

FLEXX: you sure your wheels fit properly, and aren't needing those hubcentric rings for them? that possibly could be the cause too?

Ask shops if they have an "on car" tire balancing machine. This way your entire rotating assembly gets balanced. Some GM & Dodge dealerships have them. If you guys are having a hard time getting your wheels balanced, you may want to consider that your brake discs are out of balance or slightly warped. Just a consideration...

There is a place between Blackfoot and Macleod (I'm pretty sure its a Kal Tire, sorry I'm not 100% on that) that has a Hunter road force balance machine. It will cost you extra, but that machine is the cats ass. The tire is rotated and balanced while being pressed into a rolling drum. It can give you a print out of your wheel's runout and balance, and the vibration force of your tire/wheel combo. This is the same machine that the Tire Rack uses on its mounted combos.

I had my winter tires mounted and balanced there. Zero vibration.

Spidey - they told me at the tire shop I don't need the rings.....but the tires have been balanced 3 times and still the same problem. I have even tried swapping tires front to back and such and still the vibration is there. Im gonna check the wheels myself to see if I need the rings. I am stumped as well and this is the only other thing I can think of as well.

No vibration when I have my stock wheels and winter rubber on.

Default an update...

Some good references in this thread!
I acted on the first recommendation, and went to My Tires today. Anand did indeed do a great job, and my wheels are now properly balanced and vibration free. Thanks for the tip mtnbkr! Anand also seems to have great prices on tires, wheels, etc. I'll probably be getting my next set of tires from him.
I even got the place that screwed my wheels up in the first place to refund me what I had to pay to get them re-balanced at My Tires.
Thanks,
Syncros

Flexx,
Just saw the last couple of posts...
My wheels (rota tarmacs) are extremely sensitive to the slightest imbalance. Just 1/2 an ounce can cause a vibration. Find a shop that routinely balances 17" wheels and go there. If your current shop is not having success it's likely because either the balancing machine is slightly out of tune, or the guy using it isn't doing it properly. This is directly from what I just went through with my wheels.
Good luck.

Syncros,

Good to hear. Anand is a good guy and has great tire prices. When I priced out some tires he was about 30% cheaper then other shops.

To be honest, I've never had a problem w/ th smaller Tirecrafts, like the one on 97th street north across from the Toys-R-Us. Fastech on the Southside is also good, but they always seem to require an appointment.
