Default What's up with total's prices?

I was looking into prodrive p1's and they retail for 259 usd msrp. So i called total and the told me 650 per rim. What's up with that? These were in the 17" gunmetal color. Maybe they were just trying to hose me!

That's ridiculous. It would only cost around $2k CDN even with duty for 18" rims.

I know , I figured 259 usd would work out to maybe 350 canadian or so. That 259 usd is manufacturer's suggested retail price which no one pay's! So at roughly $350 cdn per rim they are marking them up around $300 Do they think that we are idiot's.

I think it is because not many shops here carry Prodrive wheels so Total just tries to profit from it.

Hey valley wagon, where did you get your price from? I got 239 from scoobytuner for 17", and add 50 for 18". I'm planning to order mine at the end of this month.

Everything is cheaper in the US. Just look at the prices for Volks or Advans and compare them to the local distributors. The only problem about buying from the States is the tax and duty and the anticipation of waiting for them to arrive

Ricewagon, I got the prices from prodrives website. I found a place in Seattle that I could get them for 249 usd each. Might be worth the trip if I stay down there long enough to bring them back with out having to pay duty on them.

And even after that, it's still cheaper to buy it from the states

Trend is a distributor so they of course are the cheapest. However, they will rarely sell to individuals. Actually, its policy for them only to sell to authorized shops.

However, take my hint and ask for Bob Sr. if you do call.

I talked to Bob Sr. today and I got a price on some prodrive p1"s. They only had 18" gold colored ones in stockand they were priced @ get this, 399.00 each. Total wanted $650 for the 17" p1's. Not sure what the deal is with them? Oh well! I just thought I'd let you guys know.

400 is an excellent price, I got a rock-bottom price from the states, and it still came out to more than that for 18s(duties/exchange).

Just be sure that's the retail price, not the wholesale. As far as I know, they don't sell to the general public.
But if you just walked in off the street, he probably quoted you the retail price.

They are a distributor so obviously they sell the lowest price IF they choose to deal with you.

Good to know. I've dealt with Bob Sr. lots and have spent almost $2000 there

Hey valley wagon, does Bob Sr. wanna give a group rate? I'm interested in a set of 18" silver P1's and I would rather buy them in town than from the states.

Rice wagon I don't know if he'd be into a group buy. I only know that he has a couple of sets of 18's in gold. I don't think he has any silver ones in 17 or 18. From what he told me he's planning on trying not to deal with prodrive anymore bacause they are so difficult to deal with. But the prices he quoted me were retail for a guy walking in off of the street. You can give him calland find out anyway.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but:

I have to go down to Seattle for about 4 days to get some work done on a car (some body parts). I have a Washington State driver's license, but the car is registered here in Vancouver. Would I still get dinged on duty?
