Unhappy disappointment after disappointment...

i love my wrx more then anything... but lately i been constantly disappointed with the warranties, the quality, and most of all the uncooperative employees of the subaru...

this spring i had to replace my first gear, second gear, and the clutch(after only 30000)... subaru dealership charged me an arm and a leg(only reason i went was b/c i THOUGHT that the warranty would help) but they trapped me in this hole where they told me it would cost 700 bux just for diagnosis... then i couldnt just take my car somewhere else to get it fixed just to waste that 700 dollars... they said that my warranty didnt work b/c i had aftermarket tires and bov so i paid 2300 just for there services... they tried to charge me ridiculous amounts for clutch and flywheel so i bought aftermarket for cheaper and better quality... ... now lately my car has been falling apart... my driver side rear view mirror just broke(no i didnt hit anything and i didnt touch it)... i was adjusting the view when my mirror goes limp... and what does Indianapolis 16th st. subaru dealer say? "Its gonna cost you 276dollars to replace it"... also, after only 1000 miles my car's transmission has started to grind putting in first gear and second, the breaks feel sluggish and i have smoke coming from the middle of the car... im thinking may my exhaust or down pipe is leaking... from this experience i may never by another subaru auto again...

Your aftermarket tires caused the clutch to fail.....have you called SOA directly?

When you get SoA on the phone, you may not want to mention to them that you're "new to the racing scene" (NAISOC Newbies and FAQ's 12-8-2002) or that you are wondering if a larger turbo will help you "break into the 11's" (NAISOC General Community 5-15-04).

(I'm sure your 19" deep dish rims are for entirely within subaru specs so you should have no problems there.)

good luck.

I have the sense that a LOT more is going on here than you are giving out. This thread talks about your nitrous.

Is your car still under 36k miles? What mods have you done? If you want help or sympathy, you need to be upfront.

whats that got to do with whats going on with my car... i am new to the racing scene, i do like to push my car like most scoob owners time to time, i do wish to get a bigger turbo, so what??? and i do have a cai... great thing about a scoob is that it is tunable, thats why most people here are on nasioc... but for a car to just fall apart b/c of its defects doesnt make me in the wrong... so if you dont have anything constructive i suggest you 2 ****... thx...

naw, it just says i wish to get nitrous... i dont want any sympathy... im just venting, only mods i have are cai, down pipe, exhaust, 19 axis mod sevens, bov... thats about it... and those two are making me sound like i'm running my car to the ground...

It has everything to do with what's going on with your car. You're leaving out facts about mods that are on your car that can contribute to the damage that you have experienced. Sure it's great that the WRX can be tuned, so can many other cars out there. But do you have engine management to begin with? You don't state that. The only thing you state is that you had a BOV and aftermarket tires. You'll get no sympathy from anyone on the boards if you're not up front with everyone. You pay to play when you mod your car.

CAI + downpipe + exhaust + BOV = You play/You pay.

If I was a dealer and I saw you coming with a car like this, and you come saying "my tranny broke and clutch is gone, I want them covered under warranty", I am sure going to believe you have some mods in there that contributed to those failures.

Well, let's look on the bright side, he doesn't complain of suspension problems, excessive tire wear, wheel bearing problems, brake fade, spongy brake pedal feel, paint chipping, early drivers seat fabric wear out, radiator and/or fuel leaks. Also, none of those pesky ABS problems as well.

It seems he is guilty of nothing more than selective memory problems, minimal automotive tastes and low driving skills. It is also clear he is not studying logic nor developing critical thinking abilities wherever he is attending school in Indiana. Time to give the kid a break.

Have fun.

problem is most people try to get away with all kinds of stupid stunts.

my subaru dealer has a list of all my mods......i'm not scared to share it with them. by doing this i'm letting them know where is stand. if my turbo takes it's last dump and it's my fault....it's cool....i'll fix it. if my drivers side power window motor quits.....they know not to tell me that it was hte downpipe that did it.

it's a very upfront way of doing bizz.....i don't screw them and they won't screw me.

it sounds like you screwed yourself

I can easly see them denying you because of the CAI, downpipe and exhaust, but it's weird that they placed the blame on your BOV and tires.

I have had 3 Subarus each with its share of problems. Both my 01 RS and 04 WRX had transimission problems. Subaru took care of both of them no problem, but its easy when there not modified.

FWIW Prodrive, SPT, etc DO NOT warrantee the car - just their stuff. Even the aftermarket suspension components Subaru sells through the dealer is sold AS IS and for "off road use only" (code speak for road racing) and that you, dear owner, will now bear the responsibilty for the failure all related parts.

Welcome to the world of adults - where your decisions have repercussions.

I think there's more to the story than we're getting. Blaming warranty denials on tires is seriously against the law. So I laugh at the mention of tires as a factor. The bov is more related to an engine failure than remotely being associated with a tranny failure.

Btw, what kinda mods are we talking about here?

Aside from being a violation of NASIOC rules, there's really no need to use profanity.

I'm confused as to why your reference to Prodrive is relevant. Anyhow.....regarding your transmission: The info "mch" pointed to is pertinent to the issue as Calvin mentions (i.e. modifications & driving style/habits/abuse). I think leaving that out of your post and putting the blame squarely on Subaru's shoulders is not a fair way to asses the situation. I feel the same way as Unabomber on this one: "If you want help or sympathy, you need to be upfront." Personally, I would consider that fact that your tranny woes could be (at least partly) attributed to your modifications and/or your driving style.

As far as your mirror, if your car was within 36k miles and there was no evidence of tampering/physical damage, they should have covered it under warranty. There are a number of folks on this board who had a similar issue and had theirs taken care of. If you really felt you were getting the run-around by the dealer, you should have contacted Subaru of America.
