Post HELP! car is stalling

ok, i need serious help,, this has been happening for as long as i can remember. the car stalls all the time, going around turns, idling at stop lights, sometimes it wont even start without stalling 1 second later.

i have a weapon-r intake w/ k&n filter, weapon-r fpr, apexi s-afc, autometer a/f meter, stromung catback exhaust.

to start out with the car idles wierd, between 630 and 710 under normal driving conditions while the engine is hot. on occasion the revs will bounce repeatedly between 450 and 800 (usually right before it stalls). the afc is slightly tuned with the fpr set to 50 (stock+8), the a/f meter generally shows nothing to in the middle of rich and lean, usually more towards the lean side.

i have checked all of the afc and a/f meter wires to make sure they are connected securely and to the right wire on the ecu, had two other people look at it too. i have set the fpr to 42 (stock), zeroed out the afc, and changed the oil, i have switched air filters (weapon-r to k&n). i have reset the ecu several times (i think i was doing that right), and it continues to stall,, several times a day, for a few months now.

i had it in the shop before for a check engine light which turned out to be a blown maf/map sensor (back when i only had the intake).

i was driving down the highway at 85 when my car instantly slowed to 60 and would not go any faster, if i gave it gas it would slow down, let off the throttle and it would try to speed back up but stop at 60, i assume it was trying to stall but couldnt at 3500rpm.

if anyone has ANY idea, please help me out, im am at a loss for ideas, ive tried everything i could think of.

maybe my car just doesnt like the vtec sticker i put in the windshield and is trying to get back at me for it???? j/k

I would remove the fpr and the AFC completely and see what happens from there. You may have a bad part and your car is just fine. If it is a 99 RS and you need additional fuel for the intake, then switch back to stock intake. If the trouble goes away then you are lucky. If its still there, then you better put everything stock back on the RS and see the dealer. I assume that you still have warranty, Right? Good Luck, Its better that its just the inexpensive parts and not the expensive factory parts.

but i didnt have any of these problems before, i drove for a few months with the ce light on, everything was normal, just i had to look at that stupid light all the time. what would be causing the sensor to keep going out? and do you think the afc is keeping the ce light from coming on? i wish i could just unplug the afc altogether and see if the car ran.

Hey man, sorry about your RS troubles

I would definately check out your O2 sensor. When they go bad... the engine can act as you described!

Good Luck.

Thumbs up

You got to realize that the RS was probably perfect when you drove it off the dealer's lot and the problems only occured after you added the electronics and the other parts. Eliminate the parts one by one until you can figure out the problem or if its really getting bad, get rid of them all and start over. The exhaust and intake is probably not the problem, because I have a Weapon-R intake and a 5zigen cat-back and I can't say enough good things about them. I wish you nothing but the best. I agree, it good very well be the Oxygen sensor.

ok, so im going to take out the intake, afc, and fpr and take it to the dealer to have them check the 02 sensor. they wont gripe about the a/f meter will they? it will be a big pain to take it off and put it back on, and even if i took it off there would be holes drilled on the a-pillar. i cant believe i have to go through all of this just to get the o2 sensor checked under warrarnty. ohh well i guess it gives me something to do. its going to suck because i want this done asap and i am going to track day tomarrow, so i will have no afc or fpr there. i guess intake and exhaust is really where they minor n/a gains im getting come from anyhow, the fpr just helps deliver the power but gives no gain to peak hp. maybe i will have time to get the afc wired back up before tomarrow morning if they can work on it today.

If it's not your MAS it could be an O2 senser. Good luck.
