Default Invitation to all

Hi all, I just got back from the Nevada Open Road challenge, and to my suprise I was the only all wheel drive car up there (to my knowledge) without a 100,000 dollar price tag... I have a 03 Evo and I am getting a team together to go up to the silverstate classic in September(same race different time of the year) Silver state homepage it is 90 miles of open road and was a blast this past week... I am really looking forward to getting a joint effort here from the Scoobies and the Evos... and I would love to go and kick some American muscle @$$ anyways you guys have the site for the race above and my email is nonmature@hotmail.com

There is also a Shootout where we all get together and run the 1/2 mile or the mile... which sadly I did not get to do because I was workin on the car... but moving on I would love to hear from you guys by email we need a minimum of 10 for a team... classes from 95- 175( i believe) also there is an unlimited class

We really need to get some representation of the the imports up there... this event is dominated in numbers by the vettes, and the vipers... with a decent showing by Porsche as well....

to my knowledge I was the first Evo up there and there have been no subarus to date... lets show up in force...

Great invite!

That is a race that I've always wanted to do. I can't do it this year but maybe sometime next year.

What class are you running in?

Top Speeds?

Safety requirements? (roll cage mandatory?)

Please let us in on how you do! (Even thou its an EVO)

Cheers,

Davis

Wouldn't mind running it, but when you're limited on funds like I am, the race doesn't offer much bang for the buck, it's just over too fast and I've heard the road itself is a little boring. I save my cash to compete in rallies. If a driver offered me a free ride for my phenomenal co-driving skills, I'd go in a heartbeat (hint hint, wink wink, nudge nudge).

Another co-driver friend of mine ran in the Nevada Open Road Challenge. Here's what he had to say on it:

I took part in the Nevada Open Road Challenge last weekend. Great fun and lots of fast exotic cars ( Ferraris, a Maserati, Lambo, lots of Vettes, Vipers, a Noble, a Maclaren race car, Porsches, Mustangs).

We were allowed to recce the 90-mile course, but time only allowed Rick & I to run the route backwards during the trip from Las Vegas to Ely. Also the odo check was at the start of the course so I made my notes and set my reference points before we did the odo check. It's a good thing that I brought along my lap top as I was able to adjust the mileages when I re-wrote my notes.

In our class we had to average 130 mph over the 90 miles with our speeds at anytime, inluding crossing the finish, between 100 and 165 mph. Through the speed trap we easily hit 165. I think that Rick's Mustang will probably go about 190 mph.

We crossed the line with the odo/rally computer showing that we were 0.004 minutes (0.24 seconds) fast, assuming that I had set the clock correctly and split the crossing correctly. So we felt pretty good. It turns out that we were 0.28 seconds fast on the official clock. Anyway it turns out that one car in our class crossed within 0.01 seconds of the perfect time and another was within 0.21 seconds of perfect time. So we finished third in class. That 0.01 seconds off score was unbelievable! Of the 132 cars that entered the race only 14 had less error than us, so we did quite well.

Overall an interesting event, more challenging than I thought from a timing point of view. The course is set up for very high speeds, therefore you drivers may not find it too challenging, but at 150 mph plus little screw-ups can get big in a hurry. One BMW 850ci in the 125 mph class rolled, but no one was hurt.

Regards,
Steve McKelvie
