Question $230 for a day at Limerock worth it?

I know that people value money differently; Im just wondering how this price compares to other tracks out there. CART, ww.cartct.com is having the track day there. Pocono was $190 but I couldnt make it. Im still trying to decide if I should sign up for this one; 6/24/04... Thanks

depends how much time you get on track

ED P events are 250 for a day, but you can literally be out there all day doing whatever you want all day.

other events have run groups and such

CART is a good organization, I've run LRP with them 6 or 7 times. But it is not a drivers ed day, it is a time trial; meaning virtually no instruction. And most likely no insurance coverage.

LRP has really gone up in price. A CART day in 98 cost me $110. I'm hoping to do Pocono's with them in September.

I am signed up for the 6/24 event at LRP. I talked on the phone with the person running the event and he said that you should be able to get a good amount of seat time in. He told me the format for the day should go something like this:

7am-9am: Registration

9am-11am: Put in classes depending on your car and go out for a short session.

11am-2pm: Open track time to drive as much as you want. I was a little unclear about this since the limit is 75 cars. I don't see how they can just let everyone go out for as long as the want during those 3 hours. Although I hope thats the case.

2pm-5pm: Time trials by class

5pm-?: Awards

Hope this helps you out and I hope you can make it up there. Would be nice to meet some local people.

I haven't done a CART event since they changed to this new format, but my understanding is they let a given number of cars out on track (20-25), with anyone else who wants to run staging in the hot paddock. As cars pull off, new ones go one. I know 20-30 minutes of intense driving is often enough for me to need a break.

Yeah thats pretty much what I was figuring. Should still be a fun day though. Hopefully we can get a group to head up there.

This will be my first track event. I have autocrossed before. Can you recommend some things that I will definitely need to have a fun yet safe day? i.e. brake pads, tires, harnesses......

Thanks

At LRP you definitely want a tarp and some folding chairs as the paddock is mostly dirt. A popup canopy tent is very nice to have as it can be brutally hot in June. A cooler full of Gatorade type drinks will save you from their concession stand.

Otherwise, not much. Obviously a proper Snell rated helmet. New brake fluid would be a good idea but LRP is a momentum track, it's pretty easy on your brakes. A harness isn't a good idea IMO without a proper race seat. Request an insturctor, someone will go out with you for a few laps, then you're on your own. Remeber you have a very quick car that could get you into trouble, so be humble and give that little Miata or MR2 the point by (and lift for them!).
