Default AccessPort and Cobb Stage 2 ecu

I am getting an STi next week. I am looking to sell my 02 Cobb stge 2 reflashed ecu. Boost hits 1.1 bar on my car with no problem. I would like to swap it with your stock or cobb stge 1 ecu. I am looking for someone around the San Antonio area or willing to travel to do the swap. Original cost of reflash was $395 plus shipping of $25 each way. You need a catless downpipe to run this upgraded ecu. Lots more power than stock. I will swap for the stage 1 at no cost to you. Make me an offer if you are swapping for stock ecu.

I will also be getting an 02-03 accessport scheduled to arrive 5/25 ups has it on the truck according to the tracking. I will overnight the accessport for $650 saving you a 2 month plus delivery time. It would be new and unopened.

edit: ECU going to be flashed back to stock--so no longer for sale. AccessPort sale Pending.

SOLD to Hondu Hunter

I hope you know the Accessport can't be used with a stock ECU if it's just the upgrade version. Just trying to help out potential buyers.

what if it is "married" to the upgraded ECU then "divorced"? will it then be able to run on a stock ecu?

The issue still being: the original poster (selling the items) will be left with a -stock- ecu and an AP.

Near as I can figure from reading the first post, he's selling the 'flashed' ECU for $395 and the AP for $650??.. don't let me put words in anyone's mouths... that's just how it reads to me.

Can't do both, I don't think... unmarrying the 'upgrade' AP from it's originally intended ECU (the current, flashed ECU) will leave that 'flashed' ECU at stage 'nothing' b/c the act of unmarrying an AP results in a stock map getting flashed to the former host ECU.

Check the Cobb site to be sure, but I'm about 100% sure that's the case.

edit: the only way you end up with the original 'flashed' ECU and the 'full-license' AP is if the AP that's coming in the mail is already the fully-licensed version and not the 'upgrade' version.

your right. he can only sell one of them. the accessport must be married to the already flashed ECU. then when it is divorced the ECU will be returned to stock. unless he bought the full liscnece with the accessport. (which doesnt make any sense since an upgrade is much cheaper.)

so basically if you sell the accessport after the marriage/divorce you will get the money for the accessport and be left with a stock ECU.

and if you sell the flashed ECU you will be left with a worthless accessport that cannot be used anything other than a accessECU

so.... hmmmm....

This is true. It's likely there are two folks in the correct situation for that to work out. I didn't mean to imply it was unworkable, and if I added confusion, I apologize. I am not impugning the seller either (or, it was not my intent to do so).

However...

I just stated what I did if only to make sure anyone considering the purchase of either component knew the ramifications.

Buying an upgrade AP for $600+ to use on an already flashed ECU, to me, seems like a (possible?) waste of $$ b/c the upgrade for those types of owners would be, what $200?? I can't remember what the upgrade price is. Time is money, but I'd personally wait the 8 weeks and save the $$... just my choice, and no doubt others will make the opposite choice, as is their right.

I think the seller would make more $$ by selling the AP with the ECU as a bundle "ready to run!"

I might be wrong, b/c 'HOTLAP' (see other post if you missed it, Alex) is positing a theory, but I -think- that an 'upgrade' AP can be used with any currently 'AccessECU flashed' ECU.

I want to say I read that the 'upgrade' edition just looks for the existence of an AccessECU flash before deciding to marry itself. I don't think it looks for a particular instance of some particular client's AccessECU flash (like a particular serial number).

again... could be wrong.. just how I understand things

Is that the record for the use of the word particular in one sentence?

to make this post clear to everyone. If you've already had a flashed ecu by cobb and purchased a AP later on then that AP is designed specificaly for that previously flashed ecu. It's different from a "fresh order". It can't be used on any other stock ecus. I believe you can "unmarry" the new AP from the flashed ecu to make the ecu back to factory setting. In any case, you only have two options really. Either unmarry the ap from ecu and sell the AP (which can be used on other ecus) or you sell your AP and your flashed ecu together for some cash + some one else's stock ecu.

Default Accessport has arrived!

Accessport arrived a day early!!

It's awful tempting to open this box.............but I won't . I checked Cobb's site, some say yes it will work some say no it won't. Anyway, it sounds like a big hassle. Let's just swap ecu's that will allow me to get the Sti that much faster. HonduHunter you have first call on it.

well also, it depends on how you ordered your AP. Mind if I ask how much you paid for it? If you paied 600 then obviously it's a new AP which can be used on all cars.

Usually, if you have already had a cobb flashed ecu then people would order an "upgraded" AP. Meaning you'll have to tell Cobb about the previous flash and tell them the info on the ecu. (they'll put some sort of stick on your flashed ecu and they'll have those info in their database I believe). so they'll sell your the AP that's suitable for your flashed ecu and you'll just pay the difference in price. ($600 - the amount you paid for the previous flash)

i pmed you. call me tomorrow. if we can do this without swapping ECUs that would be great. all we have to do is hook the accesport up to your car. then disconect it and hook it up to mine. i will then have the accessport and your car will have a stock ECU.

Default ecu and accessport

Well, it looks right now it looks like HonduHunter is getting the accessport. If anything changes I will let you know. The accessport cost was the upgrade price. I was under the impression that the ports were the same, other than price. I read that the port married itself to the car once used, and therefore couldn't be used on any other car after the marriage. That is why I was offering it new from the box under the belief that it could be used on an 02/03 wrx. Which apparently it can if you marry it then unmarry it, which doesn't seem to make sense to me as then no one will have a reflashed ecu for it to look for. Anyway, hopefully all will go well with the purchase. Thanks guys for your research and your interest. OH, I guess the ecu will no longer be for sale as it will be married and divorced as fast as some of us.

Default AccessPort conclusion

Well, HonduHunter picked up the accessport today. We ended up having to put my ecu back to stock before it would work on his car as talked about above. The quality of the accessport was better than I expected from seeing the Cobb prototype pics. The accessport is way bigger than I expected. I thought it would be small cell phone size. This thing was like a freeckin pie plate. It would mount nice to the left side of the steering wheel where the cruise and foglight buttons are. Anywhere else it looks too big. Plus the connection to the car sticks way out between your legs. I thought it was something you could stick in your pocket when you parked the car. If you are a big fan of overalls your are in luck. The digital readout is large and easy to read and the ease of use was high. Didn't get to play with it to much as I was working and HH was on his way to work. Overall a high quality, easy to read and use--large unit. Get the 2 story armrest extension store it. Just had a thought: gold plate it and you would have the bling bling necklace of all time. Thanks again guys
