Unhappy I need help with a 2.5 swap!!!!

well DAMN IT !!! I have done just about everything I know and still can't get this thing to start...someone in the know please please help me... I have a 1995 2.2l impreza that I converted from an auto to a 5mt...then I did all the reaserch on the 2.5 swap bought both a 98 2.5L DOHC and a 2000 SOHC so I would be able to choose the best route for my swap... all the reaserch pointed to the 98 2.5 DOHC as the best bet... I have installed the engine doing all the proper things to prepare(thanks Moose & Hawk) ...I can turn the key and hear the fuel pump cycle... I can turn the key farther and have the engine roll over ...I have fuel in the rail ...I have spark in the plug wires... I CAN'T get the fuel injectors to cycle and send fuel to the cylinders thus no start... I have check everything I know and still nothing... what am I missing... everybody else just drop in start.... but not me HELP HELP HELP!!!!! what the hell am I missing?.... can you tell its been a long go... started tracing wires back on last Friday and I am still no farther ahead does anybody have any insite to my problem...

do you mean on the belt with the crank and cam gears?? if so the yes we checked everything befor the install...if not that then what did I miss ?? I thought even if the timming was off the duty cycle of the injector would still fire... even out of time but still fire... please elaborate Kost ... I trust your advice... I have check each individual injector and was able to fire them so I know the work....

dont worry about timing. its probbly somthing retarded. even if timinig is WACK it should somwhat run, crazy kiddo was runnign a EJ20g with EJ22 NA electronics a while back, and it would still kinda run on its own. did you swap over all electronics from your old motor?

everything from the existing 2.2..all the sensors were a direct swap...cam, crank, temp injestors TPS ... you name it they all matched up... but I still removed the engine wire harness from the 2.2 just to be safe .... I have fire I have fuel to the injector but the injector does not pulse when the car is rolling over on the starter... the engine will "kick" like it wants to start... pull the plugs and they are dry as a bone... put your hand on any injector and no "click feeling" while the starter is engaged...

Do you have voltage to the injectors? Are any DTC's stored? Spray it with some ether to see if it will run, that will verify nothing else (timing) is wrong.

i have voltage but no ground signal? at least thats how I see it... if I hook up an outside power source and then ground the injector it fires... but it seem to have power(11.8 volts on my meter) and no other signal from the ECU... does that make sense to anybody?? The next step was to try ether to confirm timming was not off... I thought you guys might be able to help tho first ( befor risking an explosion )

A quick way to check timing... compression should be 180-200psi, and you should have 1-2"hg vacuum while cranking. If so, the internals are pretty good. If you're gettin no ground signal to the injectors, the ECU is either pissed about something or missing a signal... you're going to need a scan tool.

Rocket... can you give me a hint as to what to look for in the scanner... any start points??what would have the ECU messed up that only the injectors wont fire?? would the cam or crank sensor not functioning be a possibility( not sending back the proper timming signal?)

/_______ GM Technical assitance... ex-technician

Loss of cam signal, crank signal, wacked out MAF or MAP, lots of things can cause no injector toggle. Even something as simple as forgot to hook one of the ECU grounds can do it.

If you have access to a scanner and a known good vehicle, data log a known good car cranking, the data log yours... then play "Where's Waldo" to find the differences.

I'm off to sleep on a hang over... if you can figure that one out, you're as drunk as I am.

LOL welcome to my wonderful world of swap hell.

I went through it for 6 months.

Due to the incredible feedback from certain people on these boards that helped me finish mine, I will be more then happy to help you. I have loads of diagrams on the 2.2l that I got by mistake when doingmy EJ20G 2.0 Turbo Jspec motor.

Just let me know what you need to know and I will see if I can help, or atleast point you in the right direction.

PM me details

Did you reattach the engine ground from the engine harness to the intake manifold? Ide also check other grounds. I was messing aroudn when i was tired, forgot to reattach that ground and it would crank but not start.

Check all electrical conntectors, check all grounds. thats where I would start.
