I'm so tired of my tired 1.8L!! I don't want to get rid of the scoobie, I just want a faster one!
The options I'm looking at... 1) Swapping the 1.8L block for the 2.5L block ($2500 for the block.) 2) Convincing JC sports to fabricate one of thier old 1.8L turbo kits (?$$) 3) Wrecking my car by driving off an overpass at 70MPH, hope I survive, and have insurance and public sympathy buy me a newer car. 4) Save my cash, bear with what I have, and put all the saved $$ down on a new WRX next year. What do you guys think.. what would you do?

Hello,
B, I forgot to write you back... Sorry about that. I just picked up a 2.5 long block '99 for dirt cheap. I got a better deal than most people because of my frequent buyer discount and my large number of referals But, the junkyard normally asks about $1500 for a longblock with no accessories (your current accessories will all fit). I'm picking up my engine tomorrow and will install it over the next month or so (I'm currently working about 80 hours a week at work, so it'll take some time).Anyway, so the option of the engine swap IS possible... But I'll let you know what problems arise as I'm sure there will be many The biggest hurdle will be the ECU... I don't know which to go with and how much work it will be to convert things from '95 to '99. For example, the mechanical speedo that I installed in my tranny might need replacement for an electrical one to satisfy the ECU. We'll see.Joel |

Okay guys, new option.. How about putting in a used EJ20 and ecu? ($3000 shipped with under 30k miles) I guess I'd just need a ver III or later tranny, I already have a compatible clutch, and I'd be good to go right?
Expensive option, yeah. But it's not like I just bought a $20K car and am going to be getting rid of a good engine... I have it set in my mind that this is the option I should pursue. Now, I need you guys to convince me otherwise or wisen me up. |

I would only recommend that route if you were dead serious about hp. The standard Wrx has alot of power but the Sti versions have the best and has all the good stuff in them. If you don't mind bad gas milage and emissions or warranty stuff and of course....$$$$................go for it. I don't regret it!!!

How many MPG are you getting in yours now? As it stands, I'm not getting 300 miles to the tank..

Thats about what mine is getting!! It all depends how heavy my right foot is..........very heavy!! I just put $20 in at a time so I don't feel as bad when I see the gas gauge go down everytime I go on boost. ![]() |

I know this post is a week overdue, sorry.
I just noticed Teague has a MY99 2.5 engine for $2,500. I'm not saying this is practical(OBD-II FI, etc). Just a thought. BTW, the red RS sedan you spotted at Target belongs to my wife. See ya! |

Ha, ha! Your wife eh? Tell her she has nice... car.
![]() Yeah, I saw that block at Teagues, but I think he's planning on using it in his own conversion project. Plus, I decided on going with a WRX ver III engine and tranny. I figure it's made for power and since my tranny is failing (I think) it'll be around the same price as getting a 2.5 engine and a new tranny. |

I am using the turbo 2.2 Legacy engine in my Impreza. The 2.5 I have is still for sale it may be sold around the end of the month I have a customer wanting it for a airplane so if you are interested you better hurry. I have everything for the changeover ECU,wiring, complete motor even the tranny with the RS white face gauges. The car only has 13,000 miles on it.
If anyone is interested drop me a email and we can work out a deal. I would like to get it out of the shop.... Dale Teague (Teague's Auto) http://www.teaguesauto.com |

Yep I said Airplane. Most of the 2.2 and 2.5 engines I have go for Rail buggies or airplanes. Also I am tapping the VW Vanagon market with them as well.
