Question Accessport Stage 1 reviews?

I ordered the stage 2 Accessport for my '02 WRX back in mid March and it looks like the Accessport should be arriving soon. Unfortunately, it looks as if the exhaust will take at least another 2-3 months to receive. I read the other post that was supposed to have reviews, but didn't really see that many. I was wondering what people were thinking of the stage 1 package. Basically, I wanted to know if it was worth it to install the Accessport before the exhaust arrives this summer or if I should wait. Any reviews of the stage one would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Pete

why not? just a simple reflash of your ecu and you got stage 1 running.

I am currently running stage 1 and I like it. As most review you will probably encounter state, stage 1 is not so much of power increase, there is a increase though, but more about smoothness of the power delivery. car just seems to run better. low rpm stumbling is pretty much gone.

I am going to stage 2 in a few weeks though

To me this is a no brainer!

If you can only flash to Stage 1 because you don't have your TBE yet why wouldn't you? It's a little oomph that the butt dyno can definitely feel and the smoothness is how the car should have come from the factory.

I just flashed mine last night and am very happy so far

My boost levels are down just a tad but I think it has to do with the ECU learning stage after a reflash. Cobb says to give it a week or so to hit target boost levels which for a stage 1 93 octane base map is something like 14.7 - 15 PSi.

Go for it!

So aparently sarcasm does not come across well in e-mail. Of course I am going to install it. I was only kidding. I was really interested to see what people thought of it so far because I was figuring that it would not make that much of a difference.
Thanks

Thumbs up

Received my accessport several days ago. Other than wheels/tires my '02 is completely stock. Thus the reflash (Stage 1/91) is my first real foray into modding. For all of you who are contemplating a conservative step-up in the form of Stage 1... DO IT! Like others have said the car is significantly smoother... hard to describe but just much easier and satisfying to drive. As to power... yeah, it's there. I haven't checked my boost levels yet but it doesn't matter... this thing is definitely quicker than it was before, no doubt about it. Will I go to stage 2... more than likely but I'm in no rush... there IS a difference with stage 1 (at least for my '02) and I think I'll enjoy it for a while before the next stage. You've got to have something to look forward to! When I do go for stage 2 it will likely be a Cobb downpipe with the stock muffler or potentially a Borla Hush. I want power without attracting unwanted attention. Thanks Cobb!

Well,
I finally got my Accessport and it was definitely worth the wait. It was about the easiest thing to install in the world. For adding about 30hp it felt like it should have required a lot more effort. Now if only the exhaust was that easy.

The Accessport does an excellent job of filling in all the holes in the power curve. Power delivery is extremely strong and smooth. I am fortunate in that I am able to drive really cool cars on a daily basis and I would have to say that my car drives extremely similar to an Evo VIII. Very impressive.

Drives similar to an Evo VIII? Maybe a stage 2... but I don't think the stage 1 is quite Evo territory. I've had my stage 1 for about 2 months now and I've loved every second. My best investment so far. Now time to put on my dp and graduate to stage 2!

Yes, install stage 1. Definately more power but the biggest difference is the smoothness of the delivery. It was immediately noticable from idle all the way to 6k.

I too am going stage two with at least the COBB DP and most likely the entire turbo back - I just wanted to enjoy the benefit of stage 1's smooth power delivery while I get a little more comfortable with the reliability of the car since I am only at 4K miles. Fortunately we have a couple of mod friendly dealers here in SLC but I don't want to push my luck.

Stage 1 is a bargain for torque, HP, and drivability. Add that to the fact that the install takes so little time and it really is a no brainer. For those of you that are familiar with modding NA cars this is simply amazing! Even stage 2 with a turbo back is easier than a V-8 header swap that got you 20hp give or take, and you still had to deal with the rest of the exhaust.

Great stuff!

Just like everyone else has said, stage 1 is cool, smooth and I like it!
I can hear my valves a lot more, not sure if that's my engine getting used to it, if that is normal. Turbo comes on sooner and stonger.... good times. Stage 2 is only $700 away!

Now that you mention it my motor had a little more noise as well. I wouldn't think that valves would be the culprit sinice they are mechanical and couldn't be controlled by the ECU - perhaps the fuel map change/injector duty cycle? Just a thought.
