Talking Rocky Mountian Rally 2004

Hey there

Came back from the rally today and it was GREAT!!! This was my first rally and I loved every second of it. It took about 1 1/2 to get there from Calgary and I met a wrx and a nice 2.5 rs on the highway and stayed with them from longview to the rally. There were a few great spots to view the cars and we (a friend of mine) met lots of great people. Everyone is so relaxed there and I really felt at home because I knew everyone else was just like me. The first car I saw was the new STi and it lead the whole day. To see the rally in person IS SO DIFFERENT than watching on tv. If you like to watch rally x, you absolutely have to attend a rally.

for the rally to come to Alberta, I can't wait for next year to see it again.

What car do you drive?? I saw many nice Scooby's there!!
I have a 1990 White Honda Accord, I parked in the main spectator area at the back of the lot sorta in the trees.

We got 200+ pics including some from the super special in Calgary, McGeer's crash (just the trees not the car), the orange car that rolled, hairpins, and we got to help push the Green Celica back onto the road when he went off going around the hairpin on the last stage of the day.

Good to hear that you guys liked the rally. I didn't get to spectate much as I was crewing. Did anybody get pictures of the car that went end over end? I guess he totally wrote off the car... not even worth fixing. Too bad for McGeer. It was funny to see the Subaru crew pack up their service truck for McGeer. They were all set up and then they got the message from an official that Tom rolled. Within minutes the one truck and service area was packed up and gone.

I couldn't believe the number of rollovers/problems on Friday night's stages. They were only 700m long (of the 320km of total stages) and many people wrecked their cars... that's not the way to finish a rally.

Very fun rally, though! Can't wait for the next one.

Oh ya, SportsNet usually airs the rally 4 to 6 weeks after the event. West, East, Pacific, etc. each air the shows at different times/days.

The grand plan of the marketing company that is handling the Canadian Rally Championship is to broadcast the entire series two weeks apart, in the fall. This leads to a regular schedule for the shows, and it is hoped taht the frequency is something that really helps the visability of the series.

It will be on Sportsnet ...

The scheduled date for Rocky will be in late September ...
