torrent storm... still pretty new to all of this but it works beautifully, I love it.

My question is what site do you download them from? So far I've had the best luck with suprnova.org

It's not the greatest for music, but the apps/games/movies are killer....

Do you know a good music source?

I use azureus. It's the second app I tried and I've stuck with it.

I love that site, plus, I have to say it's not just jam bands at all! On the front page right now is The Boss, Foo Fighters, Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Counting Crows, Tom Waits...

Stolen off of anime-kraze ...

What is BitTorrent?

BitTorrent is a method of distributing our fansubs, and is quite efficient. What it does is it makes the user upload different parts of the file to each other, while downloading other parts from other users. Therefore, one may download very fast, without the need of a high-speed source. To use BitTorrent, download the client at http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/download.html and install. Then, go to our BitTorrent Archive and click on a link to download a .torrent file. The Torrent file is actually a small file, and you open it after you have downloaded it, to open the Save As screen. Select the directory to save the file, and click Save. Now, leave that window on for as long as possible, (3-5 days) even after it is done downloading so other users may download from you. But if you are a horrible horrible person, click Finish when it is done downloading.

Just use MP3, people... it's not like most of that stuff is archive quality soundboards..... it's two schmucks in the back row with a recorder.... MP3 isn't gonna sacrifice any of that wonderful tape hiss.

Yah, I always wondered why they're so paranoid about lossless compression. Maybe they figure the sound is so farked already, they don't want to lose any *more* quality?

I finally got Frontah and it makes everything easy, once you get it set up.

Gonna have to disagree bud.

Most of the stuff I have downloaded has sounded fantastic...you can find great soundboard recordings--which is the majority of what I download. Probably not older Floyd shows, but read the thread about the file you want, most hosters are extremely honest about sound quality. I'll put the quality of the last few shows I've downloaded up against any label produced live album.

MP3 is certainly not as good as FLAC or Shorten. You could convert either back and forth from .wav a hundred times and not have any loss in quality. Nowadays, dealing with FLAC and SHN files are a breeze. Winamp plays FLAC files directly, and Nero burns both FLAC and SHN to CD directly. I haven't converted a FLAC or SHN file to .wav in well over a year.

I know Nero burns FLAC out of the box. I have a whole bunch of Nero plug-ins, including Shorten, that I could send you if you needed it.

Yeah.... but I don't use a PC most of the time. My PC is for gaming, and that's about it. Anything dealing with music, video, etc..... that's on my Mac. I have a program to convert a shn file to a wav, and then I can burn the Wav on CD.... but ... blah. It's such a pain in the arse to work around that, and even after I break their "rules" and convert it to an MP3 for myself.... I can't tell ANY difference.

And I've read the threads.... the ones that I care about ARE the old shows before they did soundboards. I know they're gonna be crap quality when I get them. The thing I'm asking is, why can't they make them crap quality MP3s that aren't so damn big and such a pain to work with?

I use torrent storm. Its all good except that for some reason, it doesn't know that it should download highest priority downloads before high priority

I don't like azureus because you have to preallocate the disk space. Not the case with torrent storm.
