texrex8 couldnt finish up the install of an turbo xs (knockoff)downpipe to a greddy exhaust (the xs is twisted in the oposite direction to where the greddy points)so i told my friend he could drive the clipse while i fixed the rex. so 4 hours of labor later with a wooden block popped against the tranny mount to give the cat back enough clearance for the drive shaft im a partially finished

saw 2 sti's today, one right before another hour long session of drudgery under the rex in joes crabshack parking lot and the other on the way home. maybe if i had one passenger less and gutted up pipe teh stage 2 would have claimed victory anyways here are pics

ok the block fell out and im running open downpipe until i can figure out how to correctly get the exhaust from hitting the drive shaft

Trade the cat back for a 3 inch turn down and problem solved.

Considering it will take about 30 mins and $30 to get a 3 inch turn down I think you could find someone willing to part with one.

I know you are joking, but I have seriously toyed with the idea. either a 3" turndown (a real one, not an exhaust tip like you picture), or a 3" pipe to dump out the side under the passenger door.

I would be loud as heck, but for playtime it would be fun. 2 bolts and a couple of hangers, and the catback (sorry, Downpipe-back) is re-installed for commuting...

Has anyone tried this?

A few of us just have cut out so we dont have to deal with dropping the exhaust to be loud for a little while.

you can pick up a cut out for about $30 and have it welded into the downpipe and it would be the same thing

It there a butt-dyno noticable difference with the cutout open or does it just sound faster?

no cut out, but have had a straight pipe axle back and no kitties....just seemed louder...didn't feel anything...but then again it was about 11pm and i was screaming through my neighborhood, so i was more concerned about not pissing the neighbors off too much

Cut outs open, tend to loose low end but help the motor breathe more freely on the top end. Just from my personal experiences.

When I ran open downpipe the car felt slow as hell...my ear dyno was telling me a lie.

You mean in NA cars or FI cars? On turbo cars it should help spool a little and help on the top end but the car should have less power off boost. Ive seen some dyno plots saying the same thing and its how mine feels.
