Default autotrans converter lock-up

Is anyone locking up thier torque converter at drag strip? It should be easy and should be worth 2-3tenths in the 1320' I don't have an auto, but if i did, i would find the control wires to ecm for the tcc solonoid and use it!

anyone?

You got any more 10+ year old tricks to bring up?

T/C lockup on my T-T/A = 2 wires and toggle switch = $2 = +3 tenths and +3mph in the 1/4mile.

yes this is an easy trick on a turbo t/a, but it is new to these kids with wrxs&subarus.
i am trying to help out people, and you are a worthless annoyance.
Pretty big since you have only been here for a little over a week. He was saying that yes this does work and the trick has been around for awhile....where do you see critisism? You said you dont even have an auto Subaru so how are you helping anyone out? Dont be a noob...troll elsewhere!

Listen beavis, I have been contributing to this place for quite some time. I am sarcastic, and annoying at times, but I am also helpful at times also. Like last night when another member was in a jam and I helped him fix his car from 11pm last night until 5am this morning.

I dont think feel the need to mention every time i help someone because I dont do it for the credit.

But I would say as a general statement I have contributed a decent amount here (6000+ posts), far more than you have in the past few days. I understand you are trying to help, but to me you sound like you just came out of the delorian straight from the past because your advice hasnt included one thing from this century yet. Not saying your advice is bad, but its basicly stuff that has been known to lots of people for a very long time. Most of it does not apply to subaru's, but some can I understand.

What you need to understand is that these subaru guys dont like old school stuff. The majority of them think "more expensive = better" or "bigger = better". I used my old school knowledge to get my WRX to run 13.5@98 with under $200 invested... you know what I got for that? People telling me "Ya thats great, your driving the car into the ground!!" "Your gonna blow that thing up!!" While i was beating the times they were running with thousands of dollars invested. From what I gather most of subaru people are all about what impresses others, and not about what is impressive in general.

Honestly I have seen more scam's / bogus products for subaru's / and or aimed at subaru's its a joke. most of the people that mod them have no clue at all and most of the tuners take full advantage of it. Selling people thousands of dollars in parts, then giving them some overinflated dyno numbers for the person to get to the track to run so much slower than the car should be its sickening... For the tuner to only say "Oh, well you need (insert any of their wizz-bang parts here) and then it will run right." Only to begin them down a road with no end.

As a general statement I have given up on giving out technical advice like you are trying to do because I see it as a waste of time. You usually end up getting into a battle with some ill witted moron and looking stupid in the end anyways.

I give out driving advice because I feel I am good at it. Otherwise I usualy keep the technical advice to myself, or only give it to those that ask.

I dont mind you, you seem to be pretty damn knowledgeable, but you need to learn how to interact better on these forums or you will never get a positive response. especially here.

So now, will you leave me alone?

~v6

p.s. I reccomended a T/C lockup to a friend with an auto WRX back in 2001... after he grenaded the tranny I stopped suggesting it. You remember that right?

here is nowhere. I have had many auto trans cars. and three wrxs. have you ever seen a kit to install this feature in an auto wrx? I do not claim to be the best, but i am trying to help out. i have probably one of the fastest wrxs around bud, except for esx. i was one of the first owners in us. critisism is no way to show how good you are. why don't you share some of your brilliant ideas with us in the running the quarter mile forum?

i have gotten plenty of positive responses, some other people think the same way about you as i. there is nothing wrong with old tricks. turbos have been around since before your grandfather was born. people were putting 40psi into cars with all sorts of fancy stuff in 1908. dual staged turbos, alchohol inj., was old stuff in 1920. do you know how to cool a charge BELOW the cooling medium? it is possible. how do you think a a/c works.

I bet you have never heard of a turbo blowing into an intercooler (say 20psi as an example), then into another turbo, intercooled again at over 80psi, then it goes through the TURBINE side of the second turbo to be decompressed and cooled further. you get a charge of air (what ever psi you want under the psi of second stage) colder than the medium(air or liquid) you are using . i have seen a three staged turbo(three turbos in series) with extra turbos used as cooling compressors between stages in a desiel tractor puller for a total of six turbos! over 200psi and charge was still below ambient air! that was in the 1970s
just because something like that is known by me, i do not make fun of others for not knowing it.

not much has changed in 100yrs. read turbochargers by HP books.

there are always going to be new members who want to talk about old topics, if you have already been there and done that, good for you! but making fun of them is immature. I have teenager kids and you remind me of them.

i have not seen you say anything worth reading yet but i'm glad to hear you haven't always been that way. please go back to the time when you shared thoughts in a positive way and i will praise you and shout out your name with glee.

long live power6, the first cars with modern computers applied to turbo cars.also buick invented the knock sensor!!
I have plenty of old power6 tech sales brochures and dealer stuff, along with subaru stuff.

where do you get all this making fun of? Seriously?

I stated my views of the way I see things, and saw things in the past.

Are you offeneded because im not on "your side" or something? I'm missing where I am so insulting to you.

ps all that fancy multi turbo stuff is great, but I drive an STi, not a multi turbo'd contraption. This forum reflects alot of real world subaru stuff, not fancy unrelated stuff as you speak of. While its fancy, and neat and all of that, it just doesnt have much of a place here. Stuff like a T/C lockup and adj FPR does, but you blew right past that stuff already.

i was just trying to say something you haven't heard of on this web site, trying to get you thinking. if every thing is already talked out, then whats left? it will always be the same old shi* unless someone breaks out of the box and does not just follow the crowd. everybodys car looks the same to me. nothing exciting. my car has stuff on it like no one else does, because you can't buy it or i made it,or applied something where it does not belong. i too am sick of hearing the same crap, i was just hoping someone was , forget it.

News

I have learned that when you talk about something you did that is impressive its seen as bragging, but when someone else talks about something you did that was impressive its a whole different story.

I dont think you are leaving a good taste in peoples mouth when you keep patting yourself on the back, and I can tell you that the more you do it the less the chaces are someone is going to give you ANY credit at all. Its just the way things work around here.

Do not think for a second that I am saying you havent done anything impressive, but you sure seem to think you have, and seeing that not another soul on here really seems to know about you your not going to get that credit you seem to be looking for.

You need to understand that right now all you are is aname that says stupid things when provoked, that claims to have a custom beastly subaru. Until you post pics, timeslips, videos, or have lots of other people talking about you you will get little to no credit at all. But you will have all sorts of haters riding you making your experience on this site crappy at best.

If you knew ANYTHING about me you would know I am as "outside of the box" as humanly possible.

many of the people in the subaru community are scared of the stuff you are talking about and it will basicly get you nothing but grief by posting it. If you dont believe me, try it and find out for yourself. (example is the fuel pressure regulator, people are telling you it wont work without even trying it. You understand what I'm saying?) I am just trying to save you from going down the road I tried to go down years ago. No one seemed to want to hear it then, and it seems to be about the same situation now. When you start talking about things people dont understand they assume your an idiot and then people start posting saying stupid things and before you know it the thread is way off topic, and it becomes nothing but a pissing match.

Again.. these are my opinions I have formed over the last few years of being on this site (way too much) You can agree or disagree, but that is the way I see things.

~v6

p.s. PLEASE put all your posts together. When you think of something you want to add to the post, click on the tab and add stuff to the existing post. Posting 2+ times in a row is ah... bad and confusing.

Where is all the info you are offering on your elaborate custom setup? You seem to be more interested in debating nonsense than adding any useful subaru related knowledge.

Since this is semi on topic here.

You honestly think that running 12.0 with a stock converter on street tires (not drag radials, real street tires) in a TTA is easy?

Al has moved on to the EVO world where he is still kicking some ass with his car. It has run 130mph recently. Even though he is an ass from time to time (like me and red rocket) he actually delivers with some big numbers.

not at all. hard to build boost with a decent sized turbo with stock stall. your mph shows great power. i knew you had a not so great 60', but it is a hassle and expensive to get slicks, and swap them just for the strip. some people dont want to go that way. i had a hard time going faster than 11.7 even with slicks and a 9/11 vigilante, 3000rpm stall, multi-plate clutch converter, but i finally figured some stuff out. then i had a hard time keeping trans working. 12sec is a good stopping place unless you are rich and own a tow company.
some people i were comparing you to were rich dentists

one dentist had a cool trans mod. when he put car in 1st gear, it would lock first AND reverse clutches, bump it to second and reverse unlocked. i think it cost him under $200. cheap way to get a trans brake without removing it. it was done with trans in car . never broke on him. he ran high 10s with slicks, iron heads, ported, and the basic mods, but 116octane and major boost, he did not care about blowing head gaskets, etc.

we call him lucky!
