Question Wheel Woes?

Okay, on my way home today I stopped by a big-o tire chain store to see if they had any helpful advice about finding good wheels for my car. The guy behind the counter said that for an extra $10 a wheel I could get the proper offset special made for my Subaru (50mm right?). Then the guy then hands me several huge catalogues full of wheels to look at.

Is this a good idea? If the wheels are special made is the quality still the same? There was a brand called ICW Racing that was really cool looking. Anyone know about this brand of wheels?

Sorry for being such a pain and the butt Newbie... I'll learn someday!

Andy

Yeah, that's about right.

My guess is they offered to mill down the attachment face area to achieve the proper offset. Not a good idea as it probably compromises the structural integrity of the wheel.

Sorry Andy, TANSTAAFL! Your best bet is still to find OE Subaru takeoffs in 15" or 16".

Hey Andy,

Here's what you do - Go to Tirerack.com and check out the Borbet Type M 14x6 wheels for $89ea (not in stock but you can find out). You can get tires for these wheels for $40 to $60ea. Shipped to your door - should work out to be $550-$600.
or
call Acker Wheels in San Jose 1-800-994-3357 and see what they have.

You're welcome

Question

Okay I know this is probably going to sound like a stupid question, but what exactly is a wheel offset? I know the numbers (did a search), but what is it?
