Autospeed makes some really nice stuff. Does the downpipe come with the correct O2 bung for the STi?

How many decibels does it put out? Sounds great though. I like it but i am afraid it maybe too loud. Droning is a big deal to me as i grive lots of highway miles.

Sounds mean, but a little too loud. Sweet looking muffler, though. Damn, if it were a tad quieter, I'd be all over this thing. I love high quality parts, and that is certainly top notch.

I drove the STi with one installed and while the system is not stock quiet, it's not what I would call over the top.

The clip makes it sound louder that reality, likely for impression, my customer wanted a quieter sounding exhaust, and was happy with the results. It is close to the limit of what I consider quiet but definately acceptable.

Quality is comparable to any of the best systems out there, and at $1100 with a cat, it's a steal.

I doubt you would be disappointed...

Hey Guys to answer your sound questions.

Utilizing the sound testing standards according to SAE J1169 " Measurement of Light Vehicle Exhaust Sound Level under Stationary Conditions"

we register just under 100dB. This test is performed by holding steady RPM's @ 4500rpm.

Bill is correct when he says the video is louder. That is our shop prototype vehicle and is running many mods and larger turbo...etc.

Highway cruising is slightly louder and deeper than stock, the exhaust is only aggresive when WOT.

Hope that helps, Have a great weekend guys and drive safe!

Bill and Mark,

You're not making it any easier to reduce temptations by posting more good info!!

Where are the O2 sensor bungs located on the downpipe? I'm looking for one after the cat, which keeps the CEL off, and another at the top of the bellmouth for WBO2 tuning.

One last question. Since the hardware comes with the setup, what provisions are made to allow a certain amout of flex in the system? This would be installed on a daily driver (well, garaged for the next nine months) and I'm concerned about developing exhaust leaks down the road (no pun intended.)

Oldsalty,

We do have an O2 sensor bung after the cat for your O2 sensor.

Currently we do NOT include an extra bung for a wideband sensor. If wanted we could make a downpipe for you that does include the extra sensor for your tuning needs in the future.

If you are interested, give Mastro a call and let them know about the additional bung and we can manufacture to suit.

Regarding leakeage and flex; the stainless flanges we machine have holes that allow for a little manipulation so the exhaust can be properly lined up. Once tightened however the exhaust is guaranteed to stay leak free. We use a Stainless Accuseal clamp on the muffler for a leak free fit as well. Finally the downpipe is bolted to the turbo and also has a bracket that attaches to the factory mounting location. This portion will not flex and break seal. The catback once tightened, as mentioned before is rigid but is allowed to 'swing' on the factory rubber hangers.

Whew... what a mouthful!

In short, you are guaranteed to not have a problem.

at 100dB - doesn't that become illegal for CA use? i recall if you get pulled over you need to prove (at another facility) that the exhaust system is not over 95dB...anyone know about this?

It will be pretty hard for me to call the Mastro, so I'm gonna shoot him a PM regarding the O2 bung for WBO2 sensor. Thanks for all of the input.

EDIT:

Mastro, I sent you an e-mail regarding this. Let me know if you got it, since you can't be PM'd here (for some reason.)

Salty;

If you are really in Iraq, we will ship it to the APO or your home stateside at N/C, a small token of our appreciation for you risking your butt for the rest of us.

I can arrange for our friends at Autospeed to weld anything you want into it...

Bill,

One last question:

Is the cat a ceramic brick type or metallic substrate? I know I'm being picky here, but I'm just looking to get the most for my money. I would even be willing to cough up a little more $$ for an upgrade. Not that I am an expert on cat converters, it's just that all the reading I have done points to the metallic substrate ones outflowing the brick types, not to mention they outlast them.

http://www.rpmoutlet.com/powercat.htm

See the above website, for example.

Either way, I am going to place an order on your website, so please look for my order. Thanks,

Brian

Salty,

I'm not sure of the answer, I'll try to get Mark from Autospeed to kick in on this one.

Thanks for the order, and for your work in Iraq. We can only hope to have you back on US soil soon!!!

Be careful and keep us posted when you can install.

Best regards and be safe!

Price is plus delivery, it's already discounted by Autospeed, to our protest.

Sweet piece...
