what would be cool about it? Do you have a sticker scheme or something to make it look cool?

Well, unless they're permanent numbers, you may end up with scratched paint and/or need to buy new numbers if you leave them on. Most autocross numbers are not designed to withstand highway driving conditions.

The magnets I use, have withstood 80 - 90 mph. You just have to bevel the edge so that no air can get underneath them. But I don't need or want the extra attention while driving on the road.

I left mine on due to rain after one event. Pretty much everything on four wheels wanted to race, and I was followed 6 blocks by a squad car. With this in mind, I'll tell you that I live about 3.5 miles from the venue. I was a black hole for morons.

It looked really stupid when I went down to the garage later to take them off when the car dried off a little.

Heck, KC, Tom, Billy, they all do it.

I did last year... this year there's no numbers on the car.

This is what it used to look like:

Now the only decals on the car are the decals above the side skirts.

But come nationals... there will be something different.

I say take them off unless they're permanent. No need for unwanted attention.

We have a nearby drag strip and everyone runs around with shoe polish numbers on their rear windshield

Most of the attention you'll get by leaving magnetic numbers on probably isn't the kind of attention you want.

Hahaha, best reply ever!

I take mine off just for the simple fact that I don't want them flying off.

KC is 100% right. Attention is the last thing you need while leaving an event.

i live about 4-5 miles from both of our local sites.

i always leave them on to/from. especially if i head home for lunch. permanently working tech makes for a boring day if i stick around the whole time.

oh yeah, no cops have ever hassled me.

You know... I don't see the point in leaving magnets on (specially driving 80 on the highway), but I disagree about the cop statement. Twice I have been in an autox stickered up car when it's been pulled over. Both times, the cop gave the person driving a warning (often saying things like "I know you drive better than most people out here, but...").

That is all.

I say if it's magnetic and not permanent, take it off. If you wanted permanent numbers you'd just vinyl it up like Tom and KC.

Believe me, Tom's car is far from inconspicuous; there's nothing like seeing that thing driving around town (which really doesn't happen anymore.) You can't help but see a blue WRX covered in vinyl.

Id rather take them off there then crawl around the car in the garage later, or worry about them flying off on the highway. If they arent permanent and its not a 2 day event I dont see any reason to leave them on and that has nothing to do with avoiding attention my car is hard to miss but I dont get hassled by anyone.

I think it's dorky to leave them on. And, I wouldn't want the attention either.

For those who think magnetic numbers will fly off at highway speed... You must be going pretty fast! I use magnetic numbers for HPDE events at speeds up to 125-130 MPH and they stayed on. So, that's not a problem with magnetic numbers.

It's still dorky, though! What other reason would you leave them on other than to "brag" that you are a "racer" or a wannabe. It's juvenile, IMO.

i think it's really darn funny how overly critical most of you are over something so incredibly trivial.

I leave mine on if I go to lunch during an event.

Don't need the added hassle off the track.
