Post Rear diff protector & shot shifter q's

2 Questions from the Option list on New-Impreza.com:
1)There is a "Rear Diff Protector" from SOA for $92 and a "Rear Diff Cover" from STI for about $700. What's the difference? Does the use of Cover vs. Protector signify a difference in the intention of the product?

2)"Quickshift Gearchange" from Prodrive for about $300 and the "Short Shift Kit" from SOA. What is the difference? Do they have the same goal in mind?

Thanks.

I assume the STi rear diff cover is to improve cooling, rather than protect the diff from being bashed, which is what the Subaru one does.

On the short shift (I recently fixed the part number for the SOA one, so you can now order it from subaruparts.com), I am not sure of the similarities or differences, but I am sure they both accomplish the same goal.
