The Subaru Impreza WRX represents outstanding value for a performance car, according to Business Motoring magazine.

In Business Motoring's Fleet Test 2000, the Impreza WRX was rated in the "Value for money ratio" ahead of nine sports cars: the Ford Cougar, Lexus IS200, Toyota Celica, Volvo C70 convertible, BMW Z3, Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Elegance, Saab 9-3 Cabriolet, Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 Kompressor and Peugeot 306.

The cars were rated in 19 categories by a team of eight Lease Plan customers plus a Business Motoring journalist and Lease Plan representative.

The Impreza WRX topped five categories, equal with the Mercedes-Benz CLK 320 Elegance. It was rated best for suspension/ride, engine – general feel, road handling, performance – overtaking, and value for money ratio.

The report says: "Subaru's grip, suspension and all-wheel drive deliver comfort to the driver."

Of the engine, the report said the "Throbbing engine of the Subaru WRX generates the most appealing feel."

With road handling the "Subaru WRX leaves little doubt about its handling abilities."

And of performance, it adds: "Even at high speeds, the WRX can muster more pace quickly."

The Business Motoring-Lease Plan Australia Fleet Tests introduced in the magazine's May edition, will be conducted every three months. They are conducted in conjunction with the Driver Education Centre of Australia (DECA).
