Default car wont start

put the sti engine/tranny in
connected the brown/black connectors on drivers side and big grey connector on passenger side which run to the sti ecu

it cranks,cranks,cranks,cranks,cranks
but doesnt start up

fuel pump is on, i can hear it. I took one of the lines off when the key was out of the ignition and fuel gushed out everywhere.

Im missing a wrx fuel pump controller and wrx MAF sensor

would those prevent the car front starting?

what should i check?
coilpack
sparkplugs?

what else?

Anything that would prevent the car from starting up?

Theres 2 wires for fuel pump stuff on sti ecu, fuel pump controller 1 and fuel pump controller 2. There just hanging since im waiting on the fuel pump controller. Would that have anything to do with why it wont start?
The fuel pump is on tho and its getting fuel to the engine. AHHHHHHHHHH im so frustrated

If the ecu doesn't get a reading from the MAF the car wont start but it will crank. I had I frozen fuel line this winter and my car wouldn't start. once it warmed up i sprayed some carb cleaner into the engine but it still wouldnt start. it just cranked and cranked. finally i thought if i reconected the MAF it might start and it did. But it would die right away. there has to be vacume on the MAF for the engine to keep running. I have a 96 legacy so i dont know if this information will be helpful or not but its worth a shot.

make sure that your ecu is gettign a 12V constant and 12V when the key is on.. i dont really know about the version 6 engines but mine i had to cut inot the main relay and the fuel pump realy and all that crap....make sure that when you turn your key to the "on" position the your main realy clicks over...i had the same problem on mine let me know if you have any more questions..
rick

edit: obviously your ecu is getting the 12V when the key is "on" or the starter would not engage...so just make sure that the main relay is clicking over.

Put your car in CHECK MODE and get the error codes. You need the MAF 100% for sure. WIthout it, you arent going anywhere. Also make SURE you are getting constant 12v like stated above and make sure all your grounds are good. 1 bad ground can prevent the car from starting.

ok i pulled the coilpacks and spark plugs today.

Had sparkplug sitting inside coilpack plugged in. No spark.

Stuck a screwdriver inside the coilpack while plugged in, no spark.

Bought some el cheapo autoline wrx spark plugs and still no spark.

Now is the hardpart

Trying to figure out why its not sparking.

I took lots of pics of my wiring and of my car today, will post them up in an hour

do you have the wiring diagram for both cars? and ecu pinouts...when i was doing my car i went down the list and made sure that everything that i would need to make the engine start, either went into the engine or i had it spliced into the right wire. it could be somehting as stupid as the clutch sensor switch or could be in the ecu...on the diagrams follow all the wires that are essential to engine functions... the ones that go to the engine bay as long as they are pluged in..you dont need to worry but if it is a ground or a power wire. i dunno maybe i am talkting out my ass but i had the exact same problem i had fuel but no spark.

motor and tranny and rear end are in.

but... CAR WILL NOT START.

It cranks, but doesnt fire. I checked spark plugs today, they looked bad so i replaced. Still no start up. I put spark plug in coil pack and unplugged from motor and no spark coming out when i start it.

I took some pics of my wiring.

here are the brown and black connectors being clipped together.

here i ran them up along the top of the firewall

the passengerside grey connector clipped in

everything meets here in the firewall and runs through the grommet.

Some wires are cut. When i got the sti wiring harness i traced the engine connector (brown/black nad grey) down straight to the ecu clips, and some wires made a "Y" tap into another wire which went into the sti harness so i cut it.

You can see some cut wires in the pic

A cut "Y" tap wire

more cut wires. Everything going into grommet to cabin

ecu and wires

wires after they enter the cabin through firewall

all the wires in my left hand are sti chassis wires (a/c, rear refroster, dome light, switches, test mode connector, tachometer, all these wires are ones i must splic into RS wires)

my fuel lines, i think its set up right. I looked at 2002 wrx to find correct way.

another pic of wiring from engine bay as it enteres inside car

my sti wiring harness i bought

I HAVE NO SMJ. I repeat, I HAVE NO SMJ box. How can this be? If u follow the pics in the beginning, u will see no smj conneced to the brown/black connector.I thoguht every wrx had one?

cut RS harness wires i dont konw what to do with. Passenger side grey connecter means from RS grey engine connector, not sti.

A pic so u can see label

Where i cut the sti harness at to seperate from engine harness.

When putting car back together, I cannot connect steering tie rod to sti hub. When i try to turn tie rod castle nut, the whole stud moves. I cant tighten it if the tie rod stud moves? WHat do i do?!?

Did i connect the radiator lines right? Im not sure if i did it right?

Also, they said i need to remove the spring nad pluger on the RS radiator? Its the thing under the cap, right ?

Power steering... Totally different. I need to buy wrx P/S reservoir. And the lines totally different. DIfferent shape. Should i buy wrx power steering lines nad reservoir and be good?

My brembo brakes

ABS sensor on brake is missing wire from sensor !!!!!! RS ABS sensor totally different shape in front, wont fit at all. WHAT DO I DO?!

In the back abs sensor fine. Just 1 in the front.

That is all for pictures, The car wont start. I turn key it goes click click click click, belts move engine crank but doest not vrmmm vrmmm start up like it should. Fuel pump is on buzzing.

I have no connected fuel pump controller yet, as u can see in this pic, the 2 wires are just chilling there.
Im waiting for fuel pump controller in mail. It should still start car tho. Its getting fuel. If i take off fuel line fuel comes out from engine.

Help me figure out why it wont spark from the plugs!

ohh and about your steering tie rod....use a air gun and also pull the rod towards you as hard as possible while using air gun...hope that helps....

and about the yel/blu wire..i could almost swear that it was one of the power wires on my ecu...but that was mine and ours could be way different.
rick

i wish i could help you more

ImprezaFan, how many/which wires did you have to cut from the RS harnesses and fit on the WRX ECU wiring?

ok i finally wired up my fuel pump controller

2 wires from STi ecu - fuel pump controller 1 and 2

2 wires from sti ecu to FPC
2 wires from FPC to fuel pump
1 wire grounding fpc
1 wire from fpc to fuel pump relay

pump doesnt come on now
no whinning or anything
before it did

Theres a 6-pin connector that goes to the fuel pump

cut the BR and B wire and ran those to the fuel pump controller for the wires that go from fpc to fuel pump

The other end of the cut BR wire goes directly to the fuel pump relay. I wired up that end into the wire that goes from FPC to fuel pump relay.

Just grounded the fuel pump controller wherever.

i know this is right becuase i was looking at diagrams.

Is the fuel pump supposed to get power by itself, or is it suppoed to get it from the FPC?
