Default 2.5 engine

So, if the Baja is based off of the Legacy, why don't they have the same HP rating?

Same engine (2.5 T)
Both have AVCS

Baja is 210 HP
Legacy is 250 HP

Its probably all in the computer tuning. The Baja-T seems sluggish compared to the WRX also. My guess is the Baja is more for work and utility, and the Legacy is a touring sedan going up against BMW Lexus and the like.

If you wanted a 250hp Baja it wouldn't be that hard to achieve. Maybe a high flow exhaust and a boost controller is all it will need.

WHat is AVCS? (I'm a noob when it comes to 2.5Ls )

I was told that they put a smaller intercooler and changed computer mapping on purpose to keep the hp down so it wouldn't out run the WRX.If the Baja had more hp it would be out selling the WRX.The 2.5 has more torque than the 2.0,the dealer said that i could pick up 50 hp by remapping the computer for around $500.00 Maybe the 06 Baja will get the new legacy 250 hp motor, thats the least they could do since there not going to make a 2nd generation Baja.

From what I have heard from my dealer is that the new legacy and outbacks have a slightly bigger turbo and about the same amount of coverage area for the intercooler, it is just more square than rectengular. That and yes the compter mapping is different and that new 5 speed tramsmission that is increadably light and strong. Also the legacy was suposed to be a lot lighter than the baja. All this means a little more HP.
The baja was tuned for more tourque than for high HP, so we took a hit in HP for more tourque.
- all according to my dealier

I too would love to see the Baja get a new body styling and interior and the new transmissions, like the new 5 speed sport shift transmission. Lets cross our fingers for a new baja in 06 with the same stylings as the OB and Legacy.

When I was at the dealier last week, I took a look at the 05 baja turbo that they had and it is exactly the same as the 04 all the way down to the price on the sticker.

I saw 3 while in for service. I noticed there weren't anymore 2-tone Bajas. One was all red, one was all silver, and one was all blue. Not sure if they were turbos or not. I bet there will be an 06 Baja and redesigned. Its unlikely Subaru will run a model for only 3 years. Maybe we'll get a STI Baja!

...which is Variable Valve Timing, VTEC, Continuous Double VANOS, etc. depending on the mfg's marketing designation.

Does anybody really think there will be an '06, much less a 2nd generation Baja?
