Question

What does seven question marks get you that one would not? If you are truly interested in finding out the details of the MRT group buy, why don't you call the person responsible for arranging the group buy? It would seem your question would get answered, and much more quickly than a post on a BB.

FWIW, I'm also on the first group buy. Kyle said from the beginning he was looking at the end of Jan., middle of Feb. before he got the stuff. Call him. If you want to post what you hear, great.

Hey Derres-

Thanks for posing the question, I was kind of wondering too, but didn't want to bother Kyle with a bunch of email or phone calls. Maybe if he updated more often, we wouldn't have to wonder. Looking at my calendar, it's past the end of January, and halfway to the middle of February, so I would think it's a perfectly reasonable question to ask, and one which somebody here might already know the answer to.

Me, being the proactive type that I am, PM'd Kyle a week and a half or so ago. The kits were about to be picked up for shipment from Australia. I PM'd him back and asked "So we're looking at mid-February?" and he replied "Yes."

So there you go!

Julian - Derres has a perfectly legitimate concern and has already attempted to contact the "person responsible for the group buy". I too am curious as to the ship date. It is the reponsibility of the GB organizer to keep people informed; we should not need to nag that person for updates. Communication is even more critical when you are dealing with large dollar amounts, and we aren't talking about $60 foglamp covers here.

If you scan the history of the private classifieds board you will see that "no news" seems to ends up being "bad news" in the great majority of cases. To me, "bad news" would be that the exhausts haven't actually left Australia yet (or worse haven't been fabricated), there was a problem at Customs (and more money will be needed to resolve it), the shipment arrived but only half of them were in it, Kyle has encountered some financial mishap, etc., etc.

Call me a pessimist or a wolf-cryer if you like, but the archives don't lie. Any GB organizer who wants to avoid having participants speculate on what could be wrong has only to do one simple thing: post every couple of days as to the status of the GB. I really do not think that is too much to ask when you are holding thousands of dollars of members' money. If this does not happen GB participants are perfectly justified in being concerned.

Well, I think that it is obvious why I am asking the question. Why don't I PM Kyle? Well I have, several times. I was just wanting to see if you guys know anything that I don't, because I did not want to email Kyle again and "bug" him. Last time I emailed him he told me that he would know a definite date by "next week", which was last week. No response.
Yeah, I know we are getting a great deal because of the group buy, but there should be updates to keep us informed.

Maybe, maybe not. It just seems things like this quickly turn into the Subaruparts.com bashing of a couple months ago, simply because the poster didn't get up off his duff and make a phone call. Relying on THIS post to get a message to Kyle and/or information from Kyle, IMHO, isn't the most assured method.

We were initally told that the GB wasn't going to happen until the new year as MRT took an extended Xmas holiday. Then they would have to fab up each system (as we all don't have the exact same car and don't all want the exact same tip). Then they have to be shipped via container to TX. It's a half-a-world away, and it ain't comming by air.

I agree that updates should be more common in long-term GBs. However, I just don't see how whining here is going to solve anything, and I have seen how it could quickly turn into a b*^%$ session. These aren't off-the-shelf items, and they aren't coming from a warehouse in L.A.

Kinda sounds like you might have some misplaced irritation Julian. I don't believe
anyone was whining, just asking a question
we all want to know the answer to. I have also been hesitant to call Kyle every couple
of days and ask(bug?) him about status. I am
sure he's a busy guy and 29 people doing this
every other day would be a major pain. I think all Derres was trying to do was see if
anyone else had found out anything concrete,
not start a #$!@#$ session.

FWIW I e-mailed him today and he said that the shipment would be leaving MRT shortly...

Hello all...

I spoke with MRT this passed weekend, and all the systems should be ready to ship by the end of this week.

I know I said the systems would be here by the end of Jan. 01, but it's just taking a little longer than anticipated.

Thank you for your paitence, and I will contact everyone when I get the tracking number from MRT.

No, no misplaced irritation here, Martin. I didn't intone anyone was whining yet, just that topics like this often go that way, and quickly.
It's just my opinion, but I think you call the GB coordinator for information on a GB, not post on a BB or PM. Maybe someone on the BB has heard recent information...but the coordinator of the GB would definitely know what was going on. Just seems the direct method would be the fastest and simplest.

BMW Man, there's a 2nd group buy going on right now. You'll have to sign up in the classifieds forum. Or contact Kyle at CTC Motorsports, he's running it.

If you look under the "vendor classified" forum, I believe Kyle, the guy who originated
the first group buy we are talking about here
is about to start a second one as soon as the
first actually ships from MRT in Australia.

Hope that helps.
