How much power can you squeeze out of a normally aspirated SOHC 2.5 litre engine? New intake and manifold, cams, exhaust and various other items would be required, but I'd like to know what kind of power is available without adding nitrous/blower/turbo set up? Also, what would driveability be like? Gutless on the bottom end and a screamer in the upper revs?

it really depends on how much are you willing to spend on the setup.
you should be in the 200-210 with header, exhuast, ud pulley, intake, and a programable ecu (tec II, haltch,....) laters michael ps: with the programable ecu you need to tune in right for the best performance too. |

Is the programmable ecu something you have to monkey with all the time? Or can you just set it (pay someone else to set it right) and leave it?

The Tec-II can be tuned properly, then it can be left alone. I don't think any of the programmable ECU's require constant tinkering. It just takes a lot of effort to get them to the non-tinkering stage.
I _think_ jun racing has done development on an NA EJ25 and has a rumoured 300hp, but this is unconfirmed AFAIK. Trey Cobb of Cobb Tuning has his RS running at approximate 220hp at the flywheel, but that is speculative. He has dyno results somewhere if you do a search. He had P&P heads, E&H intake manifold, P&P throttle body, upped compression to 10.5:1, borla headers and exhaust, intake (not sure), na stage 2 cams, and Haltec ECU. |
