Question

I don't have any opinion to give on street racing. I just have a question for you Gerard, where in Edmonton do you race? I live in Calgary but have been up there quite a few times. I am just curious.

gerardchau - you'll be toast if he knows how to drive his SIR... once VTEC kicks in, he'll be gone... the only chance of winning is finding somewhere that has low grip, then at least you can let your AWD do the work for you.

Actually, I've heard that the SiR (US Si) and RS are fairly evenly matched with the Civic having a slight advantage in the higher gears.

I say, give it a shot... humility is a very important part of being a Scooby owner. If he thinks that the RS is "rice" because it has a Gr N wing NOT a WRX wing... then he needs to go back to school. or visit www.ricecop.com
THAT'S real rice. Besides, AWD will give you a great advantage in perfectly dry tarmac. just don't wait till the redline to shift good time is right about "high noon" on the tach that's where you max your torque.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!

Also-- being a Paamedic i see dumb people come in to the ER everyday. If you are going to do it... be sensible. even wait for the next sanctioned import shoot or something. you can race.... jsut be responsible about it

Although I didn't state it in my previous post, I would like to state here that I do not agree with Street racing. It always get's out of hand and the speeds get stupid quickly.

Take it from a former A-Hole who did stupid things when he was younger.

DUde, go to a local track and race when it's a little warmer out. If you getting into an accident and kill someone or something from "street racing", both of you will be in jail for a long time.

I have to agree with GTB, if he knows how to drive the car, you're gone. we lose about 40% to the driveline, he loses around 25% (roughly, so don't quote me). Their powerband is longer, and when that vtec kicks in at 5500, he's gone. I have yet to race my buddy in his Si, but I know he'll whoop me. But he feels that I can outhandle him.

If you really wanna prove something, do it on a track. Let the numbers prove it. Hell, wager if you want. Loser pays winner's track fees.

Although I myself get caught up in the moment and race on the streets on occasion, do your best to avoid it. You might be a good driver...maybe even a great driver, but that's not necessarily true for the other morons out there. It's a lot harder to avoid other people's mistakes on the road when you're hauling ass.

Don't do it, man! A buddy of mine has an Si. He showed me some vtec starts one day (drop clutch at ~5000rpm). That thing pulls HARD. Haven't seen a stock RS or even a lightly modded RS pull that hard. But hey, to each his own. If you think you can take him, go for it!

Is your car a WRX? No? Can your car go past 160mph? No? Do you go by the name Richard Burns.... no? Do you plane to attach a propeller in front of your car so that your wing can help you fly? No. So it's rice. Sorry pal. It is ricy and cheesy. Just go read up on what a rice rocket means. I am just saying that he has a right to say it's rice cus...it is. Anything that makes a car to LOOK fast but does not make it go fast is rice. Anyways i don't mean to beat on you fellow canuck.
For the race, don't do it. If you lose, he'll post a thread in his civic board or tell everyone how silly you are or something. Secondly, street racing is not only stupid it's irreponsible. Take it to a sanctioned event like an auto-X or a racetrack.

everyone said they can do it.
now i ask..about SIR
so many pal say don do it and will loose...
what the hack? SIR faster tha PRELUDE?

also on the vr6 post.. who is my freinds.... we do drag together (3 or 4 blocks only ).. .all frendly driver.. 1 way stright drag.. ( stupid, but..well.. what else can we do safely on public street)

about rice or not. too many subaru here have wrx wing .. i am u just one of tham. Those wing are design only for impreza.. good looking for us only for all i care..

let see what happen tonight.. may be it is wil snow... who know. or may be SIR wont even show up.(but i can not believe so many pal can beat preude and beating SIR will be a problem for us.. yikes.

Cool

Whoa Whoa! Why do u guys think the si is so much better then the rs? This is a drivers race. Before ur second to third gear switch at 53mph u should be infront, but thats when things get really close, because si's dont have to switch from 2nd to 3rd until 62mph. I raced my friend in his si and all we both have is an intake and it wasnt that close. After the race he said if he had awd and my torque he could've beat me. Although we only raced up till 60mph...not trying to be stupid.

Welcome to I-Club..where everyone thinks the RS is slow.

Race him, take his money, do what you have to do. Just as long as you are a competent driver. You will win the 1/4mile

Ive heard stories posted on this board about SIs losing to RSs. It should be a great race (the shorter the better). Whichever driver makes the fewest mistakes can win.

I say go race him. Just dont be stupid if you are street racing. That means if there are other people around, dont race. Anticipate what you would do if someone pulled out in front of you while racing.
Know when to stop racing, even if it is neck&neck. Close races can be the most dangerous because thats when driver gets cought up in "rush" to win, sometimes they lose the better judgment to stop or slow down.
-Good Luck

OH MY GOD!!!! It's an Si!!!! Run!!!

You guys are all crazy. The RS is faster off the line. The RS has a better 1/4 mile. If driven correctly, the RS will win, period.

We are not talking about who can accelerate faster at highway speeds. Did someone actually post in this thread that the V-Tec had a longer powerband than the RS? Do you understand the whole idea behind V-TEC? If you want to discuss honda's that will truly kick butt, talk Type-R. I don't even worry very much about Integra GSR's, and you are all bowing down to the Civic Si, a car that has less HP, far less torque, and is the bottom feeder among VTEC car's. Wake up.

thank you for all the response
i will be smart and drive safe.
the steet where we are @ have no enter or exit on it.. much like free way..
u can see the whole road (with in few blocks)if it is clear or not.
the only car which will be on the road will be behind the race.. so no need to wory..
racer will exit in the next exit so i think is pretty safe..

wait at red light than
just drive stright .. end and exit and park and talk about cars....

i think is safe.. nothing like street racing with corner and people and cars

thx for all the response. let's all drive safe.............

i kind of have to agree with spt for the reason that if somithing happens then it affects all of us since we drive subarus. and it would give us subaru guys in alberta a really bad rep. not to mention the cops on our @ss every day just waiting to pull you over.

well anyways for racing the civic si these cars come pretty even at the end. its mostly the driver. your RS should have the advantage off of the line but he has the vtec thine on his car once he hits about 5000rpm.

"what else can we do safely on public street"

uh, not race on it, perhaps?

i think RS has pretty good chance against both the prelude and SiR, but they'll probably pull away after 3rd/4th gear

race them, do whatever you want, as long as it's on a track and NOT ON THE STREET
