Post Question on 4EAT

My car was previously turbo'd, and during that time I got a tranny oil cooler installed as well. However I haven't switched to synthetic fluids yet, and haven't changed fluids as well. Car is a MY00 with about 24000km. Mods now are underpulley, intake, exhaust, hyper r.

Anyway, when I'm driving it now, sometimes the shift from 3rd to 4th would be "weird". By weird I mean the car would seem to rev in neutral before shifting up. All this takes place in about half a second or so. Granted it does this when the tranny is still cold probably, but it occasionally does it when I've been driving for some time. My question now is how do I go about fixing this problem then? Change the tranny fluid?

Powerwise and everything it is good, doesn't appear to be any slipping, save for that slight "rev in neutral before upshifting" fiasco.

Sounds like the High Clutch. Mine was doing sort-of the opposite which was while doing @70mph going to pass it would go to downshift and "neutral or tach out". I am currently going through a rebuild as when my tranny was torn apart it was determined the valve body, high clutch (was leaking and out of tolerance but in specs according to subaru ), and a few other parts.
If you do a search for a post I made "attn automatic tranny owners 93-98" and it explains alittle more.

I know that but the issue still pertains to our subaru automatics. The symptoms are still something that points to the high clutch no matter if you had a 1991 SVX. The automatic in our cars has not changed much from then. I suggest holding out on taking it for service till the problem becomes easily repeatable or you start to notice a flashing AT TEMP light as that means an error code readable by a scan tool.
Otherwise you will more than likely pay for teardown for them to try and BS you into saying nothing is wrong and warranty won't cover it.

Speaking with folks that have seen dealer inventory of retired warranty replaced new trannys... and having a MY00 tranny apart ... apparently there are some significant warranty issues with the newer 4EATs.
Any problems should be reported to the dealer immediately to document a possible warranty repair/replacement.

The tranny that I'm building had only 5k miles on it but had bearing damage not seen on transmissions with over 100k on them.

My thought is to document the problem with a dealer. If the problem gets worse you will be able to point to a documented history you have established, by going to the dealer and complaining, to get an area rep involved with any warranty claim.

Just a thought ....
