Cool Kartboy STi short shifter and bushing

Edit:

Shifter install here:

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/sho...3060#post13060

Bushing here:

http://www.scoobymods.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3790

I'll work on the bushing install tomorrow when I get home I will re-read my text for the shifter install in the AM and edit as I'm sure I have some mistakes.

Cheers,

Peaty

PS I'd like to thank Stuart (AKA Hummer) for letting me do the install on his STi. It was nice of him to drive all the way out here.

Just got these today to do an install page for Kartboy, I won't be able to install them till 6/27 but I thought I'd throw up a few pics as a teaser

I will be doing a detailed page as soon as I can. I have a KC area STi owner that was nice enough to let me give it a go.

the install is quite a bit harder than a regular subie but not impossable. i'm sure Peaty will make one of his famous install pages for us too

I know why the bushing install would be considerably tougher, but why would the shifter install change?

since the car has the reverse lockout ( small slot on the top of the shifter) you will need to push the roll pin out and move it over to the new setup.
i think we have this install down to about a half hour or so. just a little more involved.

I am so lucky! I have wanted a short shifter on the STi for a year. I was used to the Acura RSX Type S 6 speed and it is so smooth, short and snicky. I am hoping that the Kartboy short shifter will take away that "shifting a truck" feeling I get with the STi.

Thanks to Peaty and Kartboy!

Once Peaty gets a detailed install up, I'll be ordering my short shifter (already have the bushings in).

Will the stock shift knob{or JDM Titanium knob} and shifter boot will fit this unit?

Is it a worthwhile upgrade to just change to Kartboy bushings on the 2004 STi? I'm not sure about spending all that dough on a SS. My plan is to go for bushings and different gearbox oil.

Would it be possible to get a comparison pic of the stock next to the SS.

Default Kartboy STI SS-Testing Results

Thanks to the great and amazing Kartboy guys I have been able to test a prototype SS kit for a couple of months now.

Results:

The throw is reduced to approx 45-50% to that of stock.

Shifting is now firm and exact compared to the sloppy nature of the stock shifter. I routinely had difficulty in "finding" 5th on fast shifts. This is now not a problem.

Force required to select a gear is increased somewhat to allow for more "positive" shifting.

I have driven about 8K miles since the initial installation and have had no problems or issues to report.

Conclusion:

This kit does what it is advertised to do. If you are looking to reduce your shifter throw and increase your driver response this kit is highly recommended.

If you have any questions feel free to email me privately or just ask the masters Mark and Tom
