Default Help me with my eBay headlights

1st of all, this is a "help me" thread, not "tell me what lights I should have bought instead". I like theway these look, if I could just get them to light up correctly.

Well I go to plug them in and everything is plug and play except the drivers side blinker harness (they got the passenger side right though ), I cut and splice those on and turn them on to take a look. The inside 2 are on with low beams and all 4 with high beams. I swap the wires so it's the outside 2 with low beams cuz it looks better, but my big problem is this: The "low beams" are only 2 bulbs, really bright. The "high beams" are all 4, but only about half as bright. Plus the high beam indicator on my dash board is on with the high beams AND the low beams now. Surely there's some way I can wire these and make them work right, cuz I like the way they look... turned off. Any ideas?

They are not wired correctly from the factory. The common, which is the two black wires together, has to go on the center pin of the connectors, the other two wires are the low and high beam (can't tell you which is which).
When properly wired only two of the lights will be on at any time, the two low beams will go out when the highs are on.

Okay, I swapped the 2 blacks with the 1 white in the center, and now it works fine. Outer lights on with low beams, inner 2 with high beams. Thanks!

Now I just need to swap some real projectors into the housings

did you get those $110 wrc looking things? how do those work? are they basically the same quality as the stock lights? is that black surface paintable? i like the painted look of the morettes but dont like the $700 price tag.

There is no comparison between those lights and Morettes. The fact that they don't even come wired right should tell you something. They also are simple reflector lights and have nowhere near the lighting performance of true projectors like Morettes or LHD STi lights.
You get what you pay for.
And actually new Morettes go for more like $5-600, at least for the bug-eye version.

yea through some further searching of the forum i found another thread dedicated to these. all the moderators said they were garbage and some people who had them said they were great once they were wired correctly.
even at 5-600 theyre still out of my current price range.
so in comparison to what i have (stock lights w/the mod), how do the $110 ebay cheapies perform (once wired correctly) not as bright, as bright, brighter?
is the black surface paintable?

Being cheap reflectors they are bright but will throw light everywhere. People have reported getting flashed when driving with them.
If you can't afford real projector lights it's best to stay with your stock ones, modded or otherwise (the mod is cosmetic anyway and doesn't affect the lighting). For less than even what the crappy lights cost you can install an upgraded wiring harness that will eliminate the voltage drop in the stock wiring and make the lights noticeably brighter. Combined with a decent set of bulbs like Sylvania Xtravisions or Philips High-Visibility (NOT the "hyperwhite" ones that are really blue), you can have a nice cost-effective lighting upgrade.

Mine put out a bunch of light, but I haven't got the beams set right yet. On low beams they don't shine into oncoming traffic, so the only people they bother are if someone is directly in front of me. People will probably still flash me with them on low, but hell people flash me nearly a 3rd of the time with my STOCK headlights on low I think once I swap in some projector low beams to fix that problem I'll have a perfect upgrade, but as they are now I don't think they're any WORSE than stock. Once wired right and with bulb swaps I think these will give a good deal of the performance of Morettes at half the price, plus they look a whole hell of a lot better then Morettes IMO.
