it's loud... no matter if you are at cruising speed or hwy speed... i love it...!!!

how do i make a sound clip???

i dont know how or i would!!

i think the 2.5" piping helps a lot... it doesnt restrict the air flow as much...

hehehehe i am gonna go drive around the Microsoft parking garages and set of some alarms... oh yeah baby!!!!

Don't lookie at my camera J. But I've got a bunch of laptops you can plug a mic into.

PS If you had a silver RS they wouldn't have pulled you over. It all that BLACK and YELLOW!

I used to have a big old tape recorder. I used that to record, then used the line out into my old 486 with soundblaster line-in. Used the built-in windows sound recorder.
I also tried using the headphone jack on the tape recorder to the mic in on the soundblaster, played with the vol and the gain control to make it not sound so funny.
The method above worked the best for me. But that was like over 5 years ago.

I think you can get the part number from carparts.com and then use their 15% off coupon to get it pretty cheap. Borla headers, the new version (the old ones were prone to breaking/cracking).

Cool

Subie Gal,
Good to see that your grieving process is coming along nicely. Your legacy may have had a nicer trim package, but the cheaper interior on the RS lets you hear your engine and that exhaust better!

When you drive at low speed in a parking lot at 1-1400 rpm do you set off alarms? Just curious. And the headers will make it so much better. I was very amazed at how my setup sounded after the borla headers. VERY nice. I think I set off even more car alarms with them on. In my automatic, I cruise around SJSU parking lot and set them off at 1k rpm.

Also about the headers, you can get the borlas from carparts.com when they have their 33% off (or max $100 off), but that is for first time buyers. They don't have them on their site so you have to call them. BUT if you are going turbo DO NOT get the headers. I believed this has been discussed before, that the stock headers are better than the borla headers for a turbo setup. Also read up on all the CE light problems people are having (I have had mine for close to 400 or 500 miles and have not had the problem but then again I don't live in snow).

There is nothing like that V8 grumble from the borlas though...I love it.

Oh yeah if you want to get just a bit more sound from the exhaust inside the cabin, take out your rear seat and get rid of the stupid carpeting thing inbetween the seat and the trunk (if you do it you'll know what I mean). It doesn't allow alot of decibels through but its at least good for +1dB.

Subie Gal,
I have a 98 with the old style Borla and the ScoobySport. Mine is not overly loud, it doesn't drone at speed and you can easily talk with the windows down or up. Did you eliminate the midpipe with the resonator? This usually makes aftermarket exhausts reach the "too loud" point. Try going through some tunnels at full chat, this is where you can dream you're in a full on rally car. Out here in Colorado it does sound rather sweet echoing off of the canyon walls.

Personally I like to think my 2.5" JCS exhaust with SS Aerospeed "Bomb" N1 clone muffler sounds just like a rally car!

If I try hard enough I can make a parked car's alarm warning chirp go off, but can't seem to get the full alarm to trigger...

1 of the first major mods to my RS...

2 days ago i installed a Scoobysport exhaust...
i had the shop custom make a 2.5" stainless cat-back exhaust and OH MY GOODNESS!!!
It is the sweetest sounding thing I have heard since the last rally i was at... hehehe

within 1/2 hour of the install.. hehehee
got pulled over.. cuz the exhaust was too loud...!!!!

drove the hell out of it yesterday.. and it's a beautiful rally sounding tone... and looks sorta stealth too... you wouldnt think it was much by looking at it but...

Subie Gal,
does it drone loudly at cruising speed, making the dash rattle? My Borla does that and it drives me nuts after a while.

I drove a Scoobysport equipped RS once and it seemed pretty quiet inside the car compared to my Borla. I believe the Scoobysport equipped car had a 2.25 inch midpipe.

well i've only had it on for 2 days... and havent tested my alarm-setting-off theories yet... but it's very loud from the get go... seems to level of a bit at highway speeds...

yes.. i had all the piping from the cat - back removed and redone w/ a 2.5" stianless section... as far as i know the resonator is still intact... and damn it's loud!!

If you had a new mid-pipe made, the resonator is probably gone. It's part of the stock mid-pipe. I'm thinking of getting a stainless resonator added to my system just to quiet it down a bit. I guess I'm just a low-key kinda guy.
