Question Exhaust; most power w/ least noise?

id like to find a good rear section/muffler for my Scoob. and want the most bang for my buck (college kid=college budget).

being that i have strait pipes on my 7, and selective strait pipes/flowmaster on my TA. dad doesnt want ANOTHER loud car. sooooo...

Who out there has a great product w/ reproducable gains w/o the super loud, ear-ringing exhaust note?

chris

I don't know yet personally, but I've heard great things about the Stromung Dual-tip from folks here on the board, and from Sport Compact Car magazine.

hehe.. if you wait.. you can buy my SS dual-tip exhaust/rear section from the MRT group buy. I want to replace the rear section with a LOUD Apexi N1 anywayz. The canister they have on their right now is much too quiet for its own good.

Wait a minute... college kid on a college budget with 3 cars??? Anyways... The MRT system was dyno'ed to give you around 14hp, and it's $420 plus shipping. It includes the headers, midpipe, and muffler.

Just swapped out my dual tip Stromung for the Brospeed (from ISR)

Wow, it's like going back to stick on the sound.. no wait, there is a deeper rumble but not much. I want my Stromung back!

It's on my00 OBS and the Stromung was just too loud at freeway speeds. Not too bad outside, but loud enough for people to hear me coming. I understand the saloon is fine, but the wagon, having no covered trunk sucks.

The Brospeed is stainless, not cheap though. But it's going to last....

I love my 2.5" setup from Rallispec. Nice deep sound and is relatively quiet on the freeway it the low speeds that are loud. Makes the car sound like a race car can't wait for headers and free flow cats hehe...

I'm with you on the 3 cars...
Headers, midpipe and muffler for $420US? You said MRT, and the only place I could think of was MRT in AU. Can you elaborate on your quote?
I hear that the Dual Tip Stromung muffler sounds more pretty than actually producing power, and also that it has a tendency to rust pretty easily, are either of these statements true?

STi with at 2.25" mid.. and for those who can't spell it is quiet, not quite.

as in: "That is STi exhaust is sort of quiet!"
- vs- "That is a quite nice exhaust you've got there, is that STi?"

Thanks,

Jon

Hey just got back from cruzin the Scoob.

i like how everyone is all up on Stromug. i was pondering that actually. but, how long will it last? is it even Stainless?

oh yea, i notice Alot of you guys talkin about headers and hi-flow cats. is replacing the cats REALLY that important on a NA scooby? has anyone even Measure the back pressure pre-cat and post cat?! most of these new age cats (while not conducive to my affinity for flamethrowers *on my trans am*) they arent always that restrictive. off the top of my head, the new Expedition only makes 2PSI of back pressure.

what im getting at is, most of the time, on the new cars a 90* bend will cause more backpressure than the cat.

on the sound issue, since i cant make my Current exhaust loud for free, i had to settle for Other loud noises. i un coupled the intake pipe from the 90* elbow coming out of my air box, and took out the baffle plate under the hood scoop. also, took off the plates under the 2 front hood vents. sooo. its not REALLY cold air induction, cuz of the inlet orientation (pointed at the Front of the car, not the scoop opening) but theres Fresh air coming in NEAR that vicinity, hehe. hopefully the cold air will make a side-track Right into my air inlet!

it makes a LOVELY sound when i get all up on it, *BRahhhhhhhh* and with the slight gear whine, i feel like im IN GT2 racing a WRX.

and on the 3 car issue, i dont know how to explain that. lol, some how, i just ended up w/ them. of course, i do all my own work, so i reckon, all the money i SAVE is comparable to buying a late model used car. IE; mid-90s scooby.

back to the exhaust issue, id like something stainless...but not the PRICE of stainless. is that possible?

oh yea, port clinton is just 10 miles WEST of sandusky, down route 2. ive got friends in akron so ive been out thataway. i HIGHLY doubt dad will let me rally a car that HE spent 22k on. (shucks!) id like to do time trials on the pavement tho, cuz i DO have those 17" Locos on there w/ Pirellis! and a short ram intake (read:no air pipe or intake silencer hehe)

so, id like to come and kick it w/ all yall, i need a time and place. and HOPEFULLY ill be able to get time off to make it happen, but ill probably be driving my blazer or 7...dad might be greedy and wanna keep the Scoob intown for his own use (wouldnt you?!)
