Default Door speaker water protection?

Greetings everyone,

For those that have dumped the moisture barrier and are using aftermarket speaker spacers, how are the inner door panels and speakers handling the elements (water, dust, etc.)?

I just finished a layer of dynamat and spacers myself and was wondering if some of those foam speaker baffles are necessary to keep water off the speaker.

Have any of you checked your speakers after a couple of months?

Thanks!

I think I had one tiny spot of rust on the basket of one of my mids after maybe 6 months. Nothing big, and nothing to be concerned about. Then again I live in Texas, it's not exactly very humid down here

I figure the moisture barrier was to keep it out of the cabin, the inner part of the door is always going to get something. My midbass speakers in the door have been ok.

If you are really concerned about it, cut one of those foam baffles in half, and install it on the top of your speaker, so it covers the top half. But you probably don't want the whole thing restricting your speaker could sound bad.

Yeah, what he said.

I've been install my stereo for the last three days now. Had to take a break today so I can get some for my b-day. Anyways back to the subject. I have my car all torn apart right now so I can see inside the doors. Let me tell you that water loves to drip down inside the doors. Why do you think Subaru tried to protect the speakers with that little baffle thingy on the back. So I got some of those foam thingys to protect my aftermarket ones. I highly recommend you cut them in half. They (speakers) don't sound as good totally covered. You really don't need to go and buy those ones you see for $5-8 either. I'm pretty sure you can come up with something that works just as good if not better. Since I live here in Hernamany I bought them online. Much easier than looking for them local. Good luck with your stereo.

installed my diamond audios with foam baffles and didn't like the way they sound, so i took them out. i cutted the foam baffles in half so that only the top portion of the speakers were covered, btw.

so, i'm just gonna let it sit/rust and then throw them out after 2-3 years for another set of diamond audios or whatnot.

Yeah, I got some of the diamonds also. They don't sound good with the foam on them. How thick are the rings you using to mount them? I am looking for someone that sells them online for the old school Imprezas.

Ok, it looks like the 1/2 foam baffle around the top is a good idea. (I think I knew the answer, but didn't want to take the door panels off yet again...)

thanks all - hopefully my setup will be done soon.
