Hey everyone, I am definitely a noob at the engine management thing but I have been doing a lot of research to decide what is best for my plans. I have been looking at several different types including the AccessPort, UTEC, Vishnu, and Ecutek. I have seen that the UTEC is really good for on the go tuning and for cars with lots of modifications. But I don't plan on doing very much modding at all. I plan on just getting the EM and possibly a TBE. Other than that I am not going to do other engine or power mods. My dealer told me not to get a UTEC, not clear as to why, and that they suggested the Ecutek which they can do and tune for $750. I was thinking the AccessPort would be the best idea for me since my plans are so simple, but others said it is a bad idea. I don't want something that gives me too many parameters to mess up because I am in no way trained to tune a car. Any help ya'll can give me is greatly appreciated, and I'm sorry for any thing stupid and noobish I may have said

![]() seriously, ANY ecu upgrade/tuning is only as good as the one tuning it. and it is also a "good thing" to have the tune done on YOUR car, due to unit-to-unit variations. that said, i know that "off the shelf" remaps have made some very decent power, and for a while now, so you don't really NEED a custom tune. i am a utec user because i love tweaking and being totally involved with the car. i do not have to constantly adjust it, but i often do anyways! ![]() if you're a set it and forget type of person, a reflash is probably more up your alley. honestly, vishnu's off the shelf reflashes, which i have absolutely no direct experience with, have seemed to produce some excellent power. cobb is having some issues with accessports not properly initializing at the moment. i am sure they will stand up though. i'll let those who have direct experience comment more on those two options. jm2c ken |

well my dealership can do the UTEC as well, while I was there they had a WRX on the dyno using UTEC and tuned it to over 240whp. The performance guy just said he didn't like the UTEC for some reason. I was seriously considering the Vishnu XEDE but I wanted to get some opinions from people who have used it before I make any definite decisions. Thanks for the info!

I am going with the ecutek personally. You have to remember that anything that is not tuned is going to be running pretty conservative. Cobb or who ever will not send out anything that has the potential to blow up with out proper tuning so the tunes are going to be pretty conservative. They are all good products and what really makes the difference is the tuner. If you are going to go plug and play make sure you get tuned, that will make a huge difference.

Go with the AccessPort if all you're going to add is a TBE. You can always upgrade it to AccessTuner, when it comes out, if your needs change.

If you don't want to mess with anything and only want a TBE I suggest Ecutek. Since you are from GA I'm going to guess that SOG is your dealer. If I was going to have my car tuned by them I would go with Ecutek. There are a lot of wrx's using Ecutek (mild to wild) with great success. Like others have mentioned, it all comes down to the tuner. For your needs and the price I think Ecutek would be great. I want to able to "mess with things" so I didn't get an Ecutek reflash. Well, I currently have no EM since I'm still waiting on the Element tuning Hydra EMS to arrive.
