Curb weight is the weight of the vehicle full of all fluids, including a full tank of gas, but no passengers.

Gross weight, as I understand it, is the weight of the vehicle with passengers.

I agree with your curb weight defintion. I believe that gross weight is the maximum weight limit - limiting the amount of stuff you can carry.

Gross weight is the total weight of a vehicle with driver and passengers, cargo fuel, coolant, any options or accessories, and tongue weight if towing.

Curb weight is the weight of an empty vehicle, without cargo and driver and passengers, but including maximum amounts of fuel, oil, coolant and standard equipment, including the spare tire and tools.

900lbs.... about the weight of 4 fat people or 5 skinny people... gross weight is like they said... the weight of the car plus the weight of the max # of passengers, at least this is what autotrader.com thinks

i would say 4 heavier people and 5 thinner people...lets look at the chart

900 divided by 4 is 225

900 divided by 5 is 180

It also takes into account luggage. So if your carrying a bunch of cargo, that is going to reduce the amount of heavy people you can carry

Default weight

The curb weight SHOULD include the full tank of gas, but for some reason, it doesn't. My car's curb weight 3085 LBS did quite not show that way, when I had it at the truck weighing station. It showed 3160 LBS with a freshly topped gas tank. I went on 2 separate ocasions, to make sure there's no mistake.
I needed the number for dyno purposes.
There is a tread about real weight of WRX, many people post other numbers than 3085. I'm talking about a stock car.

Now that I made a worthless post...

I weighed my car recently at an autox. There have been quite a few mods to the car as far as weight was involved. (light crank pulley, add dynamat, add wiring, subtract stock stereo, add aftermarket stereo, add amp, add bigger foglights, add JDM lights, add 17s, only Kumho MXs (light).

This is with spare tire and crap removed from the trunk and 1/2 tank of gas? 3035lbs.

You could easily get your car below that for a race weight with:

1) Change exhaust and lose some of the extra weight.
2) Remove crap from the glovebox and center console.
3) Remove junk from trunk.
4) Little gas!

This should put you just under 3000lbs for a sedan; not sure on the wagon.

Good advice.

There's a FAQ on it; 555 posts.

I don't even have a car right now much less the impreza that i've been dreaming about for the past few years, but i'll prolly be gettin a wrx soon, so i signed up to learn some stuff. I'm realy not trying to spam ya'lls sight to death

I thought the number of posts answer might be in the faqs but i figured The topic question had already been answered about 10 times and the thread has gone to *h**, y not be crazy, just this once...

It seams to me if u can take the time to bitch about it u can type the three word anser that everyone knows. It just seems people are a little to quick to jump on you for asking something stupid (not talkin bout u Jon [in CT] just in general, realy most people would say a lot worse to someone tryin to spam thier way to subie guru {which i'm not}) thanx for the effort DrBiggly.

Nasioc is the first board of any kind I have ever posted on, i'm still learnin the ropes.
