Default I gave a homeless man $20 today, but I'm afraid...

...that he may have bought alcohol with it.

Whenever I have the means, I try to give money to homeless people. Sometimes it's $5, sometimes $10. Once in a while, I'll give $20. It seems like a lot, but homeless people need it much more than most of us do.

I also try to talk to them instead of just giving the money and leaving, and each time I give $, I always say "No alcohol, ok?". I said it to this guy and he answered "No sir. I don't drink". Of course his speech was sort of slurred and he had some sort of stutter.

He said he would go to the nearest Del Taco and get himself a whole bunch of 39 cent tacos.

Anyway, as I drove away, I wondered if he actually did go and get alcohol, which is probably worse than him not having received $20 in the first place. Oh well, I guess all I can do is be generous. It's up to him to feed his stomach or to get drunk.

I always say "Here's $5. You look like you need a drink."

I know, but usually it's so much easier for me to give $ as opposed to going somewhere and getting food.

Next time, when I have more time, I will.

homeless shelters and kitchens need the money more than individual homeless people do. if you think he bought anything other than hooch or drugs with your cash, you're fooling yourself.

i love when you offer them food instead of cash and they say things like "i'm allergic to that" or whatever.

Side note, if someone is homeless and alcoholic they're not drinking to get drunk and party with hot wimminz. They're drinking to try to calm their DT's.

You did your part. Let him make himself happy as he chooses, be it food, booze, or toothless-hooker blowjob. His life prolly sucks more than you can possibly imagine.

Best response I got when I offered food was "F YOU! I need money so I can eat!"

Yea I went downtown to go to a Padres game... The guy asked for 24 dollars (strange that he asked for an exact amount). He said he wanted to go buy a hamburger and stuff. Then he started showing how he was missing an eye and had lip cancer and a tumor or something on his stomach. I was about to throw up and told him that I never carry cash, He then instructing me to where I can find an ATM. I told him I would give him my change in the car.. The guy was acting like a jerk but i gave him 4 or 5 dollars in change.. He then gets on his bike and just rides past a burger king.. i think he went to get crack.

Shiit, I'd drink too if I was homeless. I'd be very happy if people were willing to pay for it

I would always help this one guy that hung out at a gas station near where I lived and where I would eat on my lunch break. I'd always get him something to eat or drink (on hot days) from the Sonic next door or from the gas station when I'd pay for gas. I gave him sweaters during the winter etc.. etc.

Never money, though.

An old black homeless guy outside of Penn Station walked up to me one day and asked if I could spare a dollar for a lobster dinner and a bottle of 73 Chardonnay. I laughed so hard I had to give him money.

[hijack]
73 was a good year for Chard.

Most are past their peak though, If you have any left drink them now, the time to hold is over.

Ah, the guy w/ glasses and camping gear. usually wears all brown?

FYI, Topanga & Ventura guy that's always playing the Pan Flute, his name's Charlie. Funny guy. Don't walk by him w/ beer though, he'll jump ya for it.

I'm always more likely to give a homeless/beggar guy money if he says he's off to buy alcohol, drugs, or sex...
