Post I had an Eclipse GSX turbo, is it ok to use it in my suby???

Hi, my friend just changed his turbo on his GSX. So I will take his turbo for my suby!!! Is it OK??? I don't want a lot of boost, for me 5-7 psi is OK!!! Is it very hard to custom the piping and other things? I wanted to get the whole kit, but I don't have that kind of money. I just checked out JC-Sports' turbo, the cheapest one on the websit is $3500 with IHI turbo. BTW, I have MY00. Thanks for your help!!!

Henry

Thumbs down

If you are talking about the stock turbo for a 2nd gen. GSX (Garrett T-25) then I would recommend against it. It is way to small for the low compression (8.5:1) 2.0 litre motor in the GSX. It will definitely be way too small for a higher compression 2.5L motor. Now, if it is from a 1st gen car, it is bigger and may work for low boost applications.

GoFast, no it is the 14B, the T-28 was not OEM on any DSMs that I know of. The 16G is OEM on the Lancer Evos.

First of all you didn't mention which year the GSX was....

I have 12yr experience working with different turbos, 90% of 'em Mitsus.....
so I'll try to help u guys...

The T25 turbo is the stock turbo on the latest GSX-GST (95-99), since the car has a little more compression (8.5:1).

The first generation 89-91 used a mitsubishi TD05H turbo, also on the 92-94 models (89-94 7.8:1 C/R).

The upgrades for these cars are the TD05H-16G, the TDO5H-20G, TDO6 (the one I used!!) & the Frankestein models. Also the stock turbo on the Lancer is in fact a Mitsubishi TD05H-16G with Titanium turbine & compressor wheel, which u might NEVER see on the aftermarket!!

BUT.....the 22b uses an upgraded version of the T28...

If the turbo was from a 1st, Gen. It will work very nicely, in fact a lot of people are swappin' older turbos on the 2nd gen cars.

If the turbo is from a 2nd gen, it will be even easier. Just change a few parts & convert it to T28 in no time, since the T28 is an upgraded version of the T25.
Also Garrett parts should be available at your local drugstore, no Rx needed! .

T3-TO4 are way too big for our cars, the engine falls short on the rpm demand.

The biggest a turbo scooby should go is a T3-Super 60 hybrid, which in fact it's my next project!!!!

If u need more help, just let me know...

GOOD LUCK!!!

Thanks guys,

I have the second generation turbo the T-25 I think. It came from 98 Eclipse GSX. How do I upgrade it??? What parts should I use??? Also, I know that the wastegate of this turbo does not work, is it a big deal?? or I can just change to the other one!!! It is an internal wastegate!!! Thanks for your help!!!
