Post Time to buy a safc?

I have Larry's intake, a pulley, and catback stromung. All on a my00. Trouble is the exhaust tip is alway black with soot. Time to get a safc? I understand that the front O2 sensor wont work with the safc so some sort of a fix is needed though. If I get a egt probe, will that plug right into the safc, or do a need the electronics as well. the probes seem to be about $40 while the electronics are $150....

An EGT probe won't plug into a S-AFC.

Same here, MY99. Tune by air/fuel ratio or EGT but don't tune by carbon on the tailpipe.

I have an intake, pulley, & catback on my MY00. It doesn't run rich enough to justify shelling out the cash for an AFC, IMO. I tune mine via the EGT gauge.

Hey, I have a 2000, too.
And I live in Bethlehem, too! :P
And my tailpipe is black, too!

Easy to use? Yeah, you just look at it & if it's not reading 1400, you're too rich or too lean.

Ridinlow,
Do you know how rich the MY00's are running with intake and exhaust mods? I'm toying with the idea of an safc to lean my MY00 out a bit but I agree that it's hard to justify the cost. My concern is that I really don't like the idea of all those partially burnt hydrocarbons going out the tailpipe. Optimal A/F ratios help with both power and economy.

Yep, I'm running no more than -4% correction at times on my AFC to keep my intake & exhaust-equipped MY00 EGT's at 1400 degrees. To be honest, there's not too many places around here where I can tune the high rpm range, but I have everything below 4000 rpm worked out, & there's not much correction needed.
