Post "Computer" upgrade

For just about every stock-turbocharged car (such as 300ZX, Audi S4, Supra Turbo, etc) there are "computer" chip upgrades that claim around 50+ hp increase just by changing the air flow, turbo boost, etc. Is there anything like that around for Imprezas (both turbo and NA)? Would it be something like the TEC-II? If not, what am I missing?

Adding on to this, if I got the PEMS Stage I (NA) from www.vishnuperformance.com (the one listing for $1975), what kind of gains could I be expecting to see on a stock engine? How about the gains on a car with an intake and exhaust system?

First of all, there is a Forum for the TecII in this BB. It is call Vishnu Performance TecII. It is at the bottom of the list of forums.

The gains can be around 10HP if you have an Intake and Exhaust. The point to the aftermarket ECU, like the TecII is not to deliver huge amounts of HP. It will, however, allow you to tune your car to its full potential regardless of the mods. In other words, it will improve anything you put on your car. If an intake gives you 10HP with the stock ECU, maybe you can get 2-5 extra hourses with the TecII.

I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Marco

The TEC-II on a Miata yields a 20% horsepower increase on an otherwise stock car. I don't think anyone has measured this on an Impreza yet.

Default 3 replies before I can post?

I'm new here, and I guess I have to post 3 replies before I can ask my question.
How do you learn anything by talking?

I have a tactrix cable and some software on my laptop (ECU Flash I think).

I've played with it, on my 99 Legacy 2.2L. Simply peeking "under the hood"; I don't want to hop it up. Cars, pollution, greenhouse gases, why pour fuel on the fire?

"Works Good and Lasts a Long Time" is my goal. Hence the purchase of a Subaru.

I just like knowing how things work. Could come in handy when they break down...

There have been about 41.5 MILLION posts between the time of post 4 and 5 in this thread. Nice.

If "Works Good and Lasts a Long Time" is your goal, DON'T TOUCH IT. If diagnosing an issue is your goal, you want data logging with programs like Rom Raider.
