Default Oil in Carpet

Whats the best way to clean oil out of a carpet? Its not my car (thank god) its my gf's car. She had a half a litre of oil in the trunk and she knocked it over and the cap wasnt on tight. Only some came out but now theres an oil slick in the trunk and I cant get it to clean up. Not matter what I try there is still some left.

Shy from going to get another peice Im not sure what to do.

Go to an automotive shop and pick up DL hand cleaner or a similar jelly type product. Best to test in a small area first to ensure it doesn't leech the colour, but I've used it repeatedly on fabrics and never had trouble. Work it in by hand, then gently scrub with a brush or sponge. Wipe off as much as possible with a cloth, then take off the rest with liquid soap and rinse/dab clean or even better, use a small carpet shampooer like the dirt devil or bissel clean machine.
Using this method, I was able to make an old rug that I kept under my bike work stand and make it look almost new.

Good luck, and remember only use little amounts of the DL on small areas at a time. Once the stain is gone, move to the next section. Do the entire area before using other soaps or the rug shampooer.

Question Good question...

I've got the same problem in the trunk of my RS (bought it that way) . I'm resigned to getting other interior pieces, probably from a wrecker. I'm also putting in a split-folding rear seat, so I may just get more material and do a matching carpet trunk liner. Don't know yet.

I haven't tried cleaning it yet, as any petroleum cleaning solvents will probably leave a nasty smell. Another option would be to take it to a detailer and see what they could do. For that price though, you're probably better off getting replacement pieces...

Fortunately, the oil stain doesn't reduce performance

Bring it by the house, Sunday if you can. I'm sure I've got something leftover from my detail shop that'll do the trick.
