I live in ann arbor, but I go to detroit occasionally for community service related things.
Often during the day like.. 8am-8pm Sometimes at night 7pm-12am? The area I'm talking about is the area surrounding the old chinatown, like cass and petersboro. I have the stock security system and I drive an 04 WRX. no mods.. nothing.. no flashy stereo. should I be worried about theft? I'm asking you guys cause I moved here from california, so I kinda know the area but not that well. I know detroit is not the best area. Any detroit locals can answer these questions for me?

Yeah I'll agree w/ hondaslayer.... I live down at 3rd and forrest (a few blocks northa of where you're at). and havent had anyone mess with my car (knocks wood).....
One thing is that DO NOT leave any thing of any value visible inside your car. In fact I have friends who leave their cars unlocked to prevent having to replace the windows. Wacha doin down in the corridor? nick |

They can always break the glass, get an umbrella or something to push the lever out of gear (without opening the door) and still roll it away. better yet, they'll just tow it. ![]() Can't stop thieves from our mickymouse factory security system if they really want your car. |

you still can't pushstart the car without the key in teh "run" position - first, the ECU and fuel pump will not be running, so no fuel and no spark, second, the steering wheel will eb locked, so they will either only be able to go straight ahead, or in a circle... may as well jump-start teh car.

I used to live in that area back in the 80's-90's. I went to Burton middle school right there on the corner of Peterboro and Cass. And I also went to Cass Tech high school, so I'm very well aware of the area you are talking about.
I'm not sure if you work with alot of people but I would probably park closer to Peterboro and Woodward, but I think there's a euro-car shop (or chop shop ) right next to the school on Cass. It really wasn't that bad of a neighborhood when I lived there. I think Burton has a big parking lot area next to it, so that might also be a good place to park. It's a shame that the chinatown you talked about is just a "street" rather than a real one like in bigger cities. But hey, if you need more info or whatever, PM me. I'm also kinda interested in that program you are involved in. Anything to help Detroit is a good thing. ![]() |

I went to school with the webmaster of that site, well, her sister. And I would assume she is involved with the program also. Her dad has been a involved with all kinds of charity work around detroit, even back in middle school.
![]() Very cool. I will pass this along to some other friends of mine. Last edited by RSarte; 06-29-2004 at 04:20 PM. |
