Exclamation NEED HELP..I think my car is terminal

Okay, let me start with some background. I have had this car (99 2.5 RS w/ basically stock engine) since it was new and it now has slightly over 130,000 miles on the clock. For the past few months it has had this weird screeching noise when I put the car under load...like over half throttle. I first thought it was soothing in the bottom end, then figured that it was something clutch relatedÖlike maybe the throw out bearing. Last week my car started running terribly. It was stumbling all over it self, acting like it was running on 2 cylinders, and every now and then I would smell a faint oil sent so I changed the plugs and cleaned the K&N. The pics below illustrate what I found. I also noticed that one of the plug wires was a little pushed outÖIíll let you guess which one. I finished the tune up and took extra care in making sure that the plug wires were well seated (note that the wires are Magnacore so there not chepos). The car ran great for 2 days even to the point that the screeching was all but gone. Then 2 days later it all came back only slightly worse. Now it falls on its face when starting out from a stop, but also when rolling on the throttle like on the highway in 4th or 5th.

Here is my theory. Iím thinking that there is some sort of seal in the valve cover that is allowing the oil to blow by into the spark plug tunnel. This oil is not only fauling the plug and ruining the wire/connector but it is also creating a oil shortage in the valve train thus the high pitched screeching sound when I get on it. It makes sense but I have never had the heads apart so I donít know if this is possible.

Please help with any insights. Iím going to cross post this as its not related only to N/A. Thanks in advance

Chris

personally, I would call the magnacores cheapos. I had them for a month and they would always pop off the spark plug. (no oil like you have however) but it would run the same, seemed to idle alright, but any sort of throttle and it would run horribly and shake violently (especially with only 2 connected ).

as for the oil.... it doesn't lookgood, it's possible the plug boot inside the head is ripped somehow, might be able to visually inspect it by taking off the valve cover.

yeah I have been doing some reading and it seems that thoes seals on the plug tubes are prone to leaking. I'm going to replace all the upper gaskets and put a new plug/wire on and keep my fingers crossed. I'm just hoping its not somthing more serious inside the motor like a ring or valve seat.

You know its funny you mention the plug wires pushing off...I noticed that they were all a little loose and didnt seem to seat very well. What do you use?

As a side note does anyone know what the correct torque for the valve covers and the spark plugs is? I want to be spot on for this so that I can rule out user error.

TIA CJ

I wouldn't think it's anything inside the engine, since the tip of the spark plug is perfectly clean, and it's only the part that's inside of the boot.

I went back to stock plug wires. nice fit and you can tell when they're actually on. I think the magnacore rubber is just too squishy to really get on there good without a ton of brute force and patience.
