Thumbs up

Sure, they will usually try to beat it. I have known of people that go back and forth with another dealers offers to get a higher and higher price. At the end, one dealer just gives up and won't go higher. You just take the highest. Most won't get much better than book value though. Good luck

WARNING: Most dealers will try to "steal the trade" even when you're paying MSRP for the car. Example: The pre-owned department will officially appraise your car at $12,000 so the Subie sales manager will instruct the salesman to tell you it is worth $10,000. Now they have an extra $2,000 to negotiate with. There's no reason they shouldn't give you within $500 of the avg. between KBB and black book.

i usually just tell them i want and "make it happen". you gotta be able to walk away. i told the sales person what i wanted and he was like "that's impossible to do". I then got up and said, thank you! Then he said, "let me talk to my manager". After he came back, i went straight to the manager, and got what i wanted.

good luck

But it doesn't always work. I've been trying to get rid of my Jeep for a while now, and I just can't seem to find a buyer. The last dealer I went into said that I have a really nice rig, but they'll only give me 3000 below wholesale value for it. I went back and forth for a while, and they wouldn't budge, so I left. It all boils down to supply and demand. There's a great supply of used WJs and not a lot of demand, thank you very much, DaimlerChrylser.

Don't tell them until AFTER they appraised it and given you their offer. Nothing worse than letting them start lower than they were planning to.
