Post Clicking Noise from head?

I'm not sure if it's from the head, but my car has less than 200 miles on it (Yes I know I baby it) and I hear this rather annoying clicking noise as i let it idle, what is it?

I had the same problem when I first got my car. It turned out to be the timing belt tensioner. Whatever you do, don't bring it to Lichtenberg, as they don't know much, and will tell you that it's normal. Make sure that you do show them the noise, so they can't dismiss it. Mine was done at 600miles, but I started to hear it at 250-300. Then it was just a matter of finding a dealer that actually wants to fix it. From what I've heard, Metric Subaru in Huntington is very good, but I'll let you know, cause I'm going there on Wednesday to have them see why I have a CE light on.

just wanted to chime in and tell you guys if you do want a good dealer, Metric is worth the trip. Talk to Dave Brown, he's the service manager and an avid auto-crosser to boot! If you see craig there, (a salesman there) talk to him as well. he auto-crosses as well and has suped up his subbie as well.

just really nice guys that love their subes, know their subes, and very importantly: ARE mod-friendly. they won't give you the: "your STI muffler has voided your warentee" BS that some dealers do.

so DieCivic, if you don't have a good dealer, and don't mind the trip give 'em a try. tell 'em you heard about them from the iclub. they've been on this board from time to time.
oh and dandbest, good luck with your CE light.

don't worry its no biggie...
down the road you will hear more of those coming from all over the car...
i have that clicking noise above my head, well its more like behind my head.
you will hear the clunking noise that the sunroof makes when you open them, well only if you go over a large bump.
there is a couple of easy fix on them
just locate the noise.
take of the padding and see what metal is hitting which of the panel and put a cloth around that area and the noise will be gone.
there is the one in the mod section.
go check it out, it tell you how the get rid of the sunroof noise.
hope this helps

Michael - I think he was talking about the engine head... not his head.

I really wish I could hear what you guys were talking about...it seems to me these boxer engines are about the most clattering engines I have ever heard...granted I was used to my mitsu which didnt make any noise.....but mine kinda ticks....not real loud...but it has sounded the same since it was brand new...

Yeah, that's about right.

... if your engine doesn't rattle, click, hiss, spit, rasp, and otherwise sound like a nasty bucket of bolts (especially when cold) -- then it isn't a boxer, Subaru or Porsche (or air-cooled VeeDub for that matter).

It all goes with the rough-and-ready, who-gives-a-shyte nature of a Subaru IMHO.

I love the sound of my engine. When I hear a Subaru start up I can always tell by the engine sound.

buckbomb - same goes for honda motors, be they 4, 6, vtec or otherwise, they all have the same sound. (or at least the ones from the last decade and a half)

Ill admit, when i start'er up in -40 C weather, my RS makes some pretty weird rasps and gasps, but it still sounds like a genuine suby! ( the only rattle i get is my windows when theyre rolled all the way down.)
