Question weird idle when starting up....Please HELP...

i have a 99RS
yesterday the car drove fine...
i went to dinner after that i started my car...
the idle went a little crazy (first time for me seeing that)
it went from 700rpm up to 1200rpm then went back down to the point that it feel like it was going to stall, then it went back up again. it was like this for a few seconds...
then i tap a bit of gas and everything went back to normal...
i thought that i fried my maf ... i took the car for a hard run... for a short while...
i was hoping that my car is not in limp mode.. no limp mode since i can rev my car all the way to the redline...not that i redline it bit close...
so anyone have an idea why the idle was a bit weird? the only reason i can think of is that...she (my car) felt neglected since i was out with a date...
guess she (my car ) was a bit moody on v-day..
but seriously any ideas?
thanks
michael

Ever since I fried one of my cats (maybe both, not sure yet!), when I start up the car it does something similar to that. I have changed the oil and fuel filter, and reset the ECU since the event, and now the car runs great, but when I first start it up, it revs up some, backs down to around 600RPM, then goes back up and stays at around 1100 until it warms up (and even then I have to kick it off high idle before it will actually drop). I suspect that in my case, the fuel filter may be responsible - my previous one was very dirty, and the new one flows so much better, it is probably supplying a bit too much fuel at start, and that would explain the bog...

Did you get her a gift for Valentines Day? That's why she's mad at you.

i have got rid of the two factory cats and have one high flow cat...
i know that when cold starts my idle go up and down till its warm...
but yesterday it was like that after ..1.5 hr for dinner... after dinner the car is still warm so the idle shouldn't be like that. on top of that...the idle went up and down but all the way down to the point that its going to stall, that was the first time too.
so i still don't know what is going on...
maybe i will go start up my car later and see what happens.
i know that my car is running rich with the setup i have....
so any other ideas?
thanks
michael
ps: or should i just ....reset the ecu
or tell my car that she is the only one!!

Check your plugs, if they are fouled. Clean them and run a good injector cleaner. Reset the ECU and good luck.

Question

I'm curious, what kind of "high-flow" cat do you have? I have been trying to find one for my 99 2.5RS, to replace my two (toasted) factory cats. Is yours a Random?

Maybe you need to replace your oil, fule and air filters. I had that problem with my 88 GL and I changed the air filter and it idle like a calm cat.
