Talking 05 Baja

I just got a E-mail from SOA and they said that the 05 Baja's should be hitting the Dealerships next month.:

In the reviews they are lumping the 04's with the 05's and on the subaru web site it looks like the 04's still. I don't see any difference. Is there any?

Default 04 = 05 I think (long)

I am no expert, but I don't see any differences at all. They are
probably gonna just let the baja die on the old chassis.
The color is a different name but I THINK it is the same. I never
saw the 04 in blue in person, only pictures, but it is PROBABLY
the same color different name. The biggest obvious difference
is the additional $25 destination charge, from 550 to 575.
(I THINK those are the numbers) And no customer incentives
like cash back or finance rates.
I was only interested in a blue turbo, and I wanted it pretty
stripped, as it will work for at least part of its living, carrying
hay and 50lb bags of feed. I looked on the web and the only
one within 50 miles was listed as a red auto, but I drove down
to the (not ) local Auto Mall and they said yeah they had one but
it was on their storage lot. They brought it around and it was
a dirty 400 mile old demo, so I had no misgivings about gassing
it a bit to see what it felt like. Oh, and it was a 5spd, not an
automatic. Loved it though, but told them I wanted a blue one
and they gave me a long song and dance about how this was
the last one and they didn't think they were going to get any
more so I better take this one and color doesn't matter. The
salesman actually told me there had been studies and the 1st
thing people stopped caring about was color , so, basically, get
over it. I left <grin> and went down the street and test drove
an Infinity G35 coupe. WHEEE but $38k. Never mind.
We were sitting drinking coffee before heading back home,
and decided to check our local dealer just for the heck of it.
He said we got one in today, and we walked out back and there
was a blue one, untouched, still with dirt, plastic covers and
packing tape. 5spd, cloth, rubber mats, compass and bed
extender, pretty much zactly what I wanted. Took it for a quick
gentle spin, and loved it. As we were leaving he asked me
what it would take, and told him If he could give it to me for
under 20k with 3k down and my worn out rx7 turbo, I'd
take it. Having seen my Mazda, he smiled and said he kinda
doubted it, but maybe somehow. Next morning, Sunday, he
calls and says if I want its a deal... splutter, I had no intention
of buying a car that day 'cause there was no way my car is
worth anything to a dealer, but I guess he really wanted to
turn it quick. Then he mentions, Oh, its a 05, btw.... So now
I don't have my rx7, but I do have an 02 outback sport and
a baja turbo.
Hmmm, how'd that happen?

If the Baja survives, the 06 will be built on the new platform. The leather Turbo is suppose to come with a hard lockable bed cover standard.12v socket in the console,i don't know of anything else thats different besides new colors.

pffft,
thats a cool story. I love reading how some people get good deals. Regal blue is different than Mystic Blue, which is what some 03s where and alot of 04s were. Do you have a place to show pictures? I'd like to see a picture of your 05.

I got my black '03 non-turbo much the same way.....stopped by the local dealer, who had 4 2004's on hand, all A/T's, and asked when he would be expecting a 5 speed. He stated never, as the only one they ever got in has been on the lot since 11/03.

I asked where, and he said, "oh, it's in indoor storage now, we put it on SOA's search list, and put it away"

I had him drive me to the storage lot, and found my black, fully loaded Baja sitting there, with a dead battery, but seat covers/carpet covers still in place. Someone had pilfered a rear trim screw thingy, but after him dropping the price to $18,5K, and giving me $4K more than I owed on my Frontier, we had a deal.
(they even put a brand new battery in, instead of charging the dead one). That left me with a price of $14.5K, and with 2.9% financing, my payment was LOWER than my old one, even though my loan term was less than my old truck (36 mos. vs. 48).

My wife even leaned on him hard, and they threw in the hitch package and bike rack, which was installed the day the trim screw showed up. I even managed to worm my way into two full free tanks of fuel, and haven't looked back since.

So what it it's an '03.....it's the lowest mileage '03 I know of, and I got a great deal on it........

That sure looks like Mystic Blue Pearl to be,they must have just changed the name.Man that color is it! i wish like hell i would have waited and got that color.I get ill every time i see one that reminds me about the big mistake i made.Thats what happens when you get in a hurry, and i said i wasn't gonna do that. You look like you could use some splash guards, mud flaps on it to help keep it clean.Looks really nice,ENJOY!

I was up my Subaru Dealer today. They had one 05' Baja buried in the back lot... I'm not kidding either... the last possible space. There was one 04' and that was it. It's ashame my 03 turns heads where ever I go.

I heard that the current model will last through the '06 model year, and has a 50/50 chance of surving beyond that in some new body. That is very "iffy," however...

I was looking around and all the dealers out here in So Cal have either one or no Baja's

The Thousand Oaks Dealer said they had none and had not sold or had one on the lot in months.....

As I was walking out..somebody yelled that they had two come in....I test drove a mystic blue with the limited edition plastic covers still on the seats.....

The guy said with a little help these engines can put out 300 plus hp's.......

But they just dont sell in this area......and was surprized that they ordered more..........I also saw a yellow one with about 3-4 months worth of dust all over it..........they did not know why it was there........

They also said it was discontinued

I think that CA is getting screwed out of the baja's. Like you said, all the deliers up here in the bay area only have 1 or none on the lot, Frustrating.
