Arrow Tranny Woes...and what i learned

Well..Kevin..i am in your boat..but worse.

My tranny and torque converter are SHOT...there is metal in the tranny fluid and leaking, and the bands are shot, and the actual gears are torn up as well...

The torque converter..well...this is leaking and will (maybe) last around 1K if i baby her...now the bad part/good part

The damage...2.5K the good news...STI motor and tranny are coming shortly..so i will probably be just babying it untill that gets installed and may by using another car as a daily driver..will have to see.

anyhow...plese be kind to the 4EAT..they are NOT bullet proof..far from it. I never nuetral dropped it, or manually shifted it...that much..but NEVER N-dropped it

anyhow...guys, have fun for me..whilst the scobers is out of comission.

oh..and what i learned..the STI motor isn't going in soon enough and the 4EAT really wasn't meant for me. that and to baby her, the TQ converter..well i never thought i woulda F-D one of those up...lol anyhow..have fun and be safe guys

Whoa! Im sorry to hear that 98mpreziveRS. I didn't think I would read of this happening to someone else for a while. It's good you are getting this STi tranny. Best of luck to you! Damn!

LOL..yeah i was praying for the best when she went in this moring

I am going to shoot by my dealer tommorow to see the odds of warranty more like none to none.

Anyhow..it is a good thing..not only did i fry the tranny..but i also did the torque converter..lol..how many people have done that

me..and umm...me?

hehehe..the time was coming..and just as i was going to continue building my motor.. *shrug* looks like i may be going into a shelby daytona (2.2 litres of turbo charged terror ) or sumthing..lol..just untill my blue baby is back up and drivable..lol

Wish you the best of luck with yours..i will be taking pics of my TQ converter inside and out as well as tranny when i get Un-Lazy and undepressed

This is on a non-turbocharged, only-bolt-on car? If so, that's not good for 4EAT users...

well..i wouldn't say only only bolt ons..

hehehe..no turbo..but making some pretty good NA power. (on a stock intake )

ask Aspen or Marcin..they got rides

lol..they were "impressed"..and that was on a slipping tranny and the car was running like poopy

98imprez, sorry to hear about that. Do you think this is a thermal issue, or is it something else? If the ATF got too hot and broke down, that could be the cause of all your problems, or -- much worse -- simply too much torque.

Anything the rest of us can learn, other than "take it easy on the tranny"?

I know he raised compression. Probably nothing more than a low pressure turbo can put out though. (And unless Im mistaken probably less than Trey's NA monster) RS trannys just arent that strong.

Did you have a transmission cooler installed after you started modding your engine?

We SVX owners (230+hp through the 4EAT) have found that an additional transmission cooler is a MUST, even if your engine is stoock, if you want your automatic transmission to last.

I have over 90,000 HARD miles on my 4EAT, tyhe biggest cooler I could find along with regular fluid changes surely has helped.

Hmmmmmm.... Interesting.......
Well let's just say that I know that I had the same thing but definetly not quite as bad as yours. I even have the same quote as well 98. I already have quotes from places for a total rebuild as well as one that will handle 3 times the amount of Horse Power and torque.
It's gonna be interesting considering mine failed (I could still drive it but not the best) with only simple bolt-ons and nothing more.
