Question What model year WRX trannies had the 20KG center differential?

Just curious. I'm considering buying the JDM 92 WRX trans that's being advertised, but am not sure whether it's suitable for my future needs (beefy gearset, 20KG center diff).

If it is, then I can grab this one, and get to work on it, or start looking around for a better unit.

Sti makes either a 12kg or 20kg center diffs. I don't think they come in certain models, maybe the 12kg. But you can order it separately through Sti. They also have a clutch type but it is very expensive. If you don't want to go to that extreme, try other brands such as Katz or Cusco.

Okay. I was told that the MY99 RS tranny (which I am currently running) used a 4KG viscuous center diff. I was also told that to install a 20KG diff, I would need to get a MY98 or older transmission housing to install the 20KG center diff because of dimensional differences between the 1999 and earlier trannies.

So, if this 92 WRX trans already has a 12 or 20KG center diff, then it would be able to take the uprated unit, if it's not so equipped already, correct?
